Doug Masters VS. 'Maverick'

Who would win a dogfight? Masters in his Falcon or Maverick in his Tomcat.

Or even if they had the same fighters (just to compare pure skill). I understand "Maverick" was the best, but Masters had "the touch".

"Maverick" might win if Doug didn't have the corny tapes to listen to.

All things being equal, I go with Doug Masters.

reply

maverick with out a doubt

reply

I say doug wins because his falcon is a lot more agile than mavericks tomcat.

reply

Maverick would kick beat the hell out of Masters. Master's cried like a little baby when he race Knotcher and besides Masters got killed by some pansies in MIG's.

reply

I think Masters would win because while he's busy fighting and jamming to Queen, 'Maverick' would be too busy trying to find a place to play beach volleyball with his shirt off.....

"This one's for you, Chappy..."

reply

Doug wouldn't stand a chance.

reply

Doug would win, becuase he's got the "if you're listening to this, something went wrong" tape to help him out. what did goose do for maverick? no tape, not even a goodbye note or a "see ya later"

reply

There is a reason why the F-14 isn't used anymore.

reply

"Maverick" is a trained fighter pilot, does it for a living. Doug Masters is a kid who knows how to fly a Cessna through a canyon.

Let's not forget what happened to Doug over Alaska in the sequel....

reply

maverick is the best of the best! doug masters is just ridiculous character who shares his last name with ken masters.

reply

Doug masters is just a ridiculous character but Maverick isn't? Ohh I forgot Maverick is a real person sorry for the mistake. From now on I'll just ask you who is a character and who isn't.

reply

oh, you're very clever. the difference between maverick and masters is not that one of them is not a character but that only one of them is ridiculous. you can now think about who the ridiculous one is.

reply

Maverick also flew upside down and over a mig lol what did doug ever do NOTHING.

I KNOW 2 things that are clear.I'm a great sinner,Christ is a great Savior.

reply

Maverick would kick Doug's ass on and off the ground.

reply

Doug Mmasters killed the evil dictator. Who did Maverick ever kill? some lowly pilots. And Doug saved his father's life. What was Maverick doing when his father was ditching his plane in the pacific? sucking on a pacifier?. Maverick would try that "hit the brakes and he'll fly right by" trick on Doug, but then Doug will just put a new Twisted Sister cassette in his walkman. a Doug Masters butt kicking montage will ensue and that will be the last anyone ever saw of maverick.

reply

Maverick killed Soviet pilots, thats who he ditched. Commie Soviet pilots at the height of the Cold War. There is no comparison of a Soviet pilot to a goofy, lowly, 3rd world Middle Eastern pilot...no contest Maverick in a matter of minutes.

reply

""Maverick" is a trained fighter pilot, does it for a living. Doug Masters is a kid who knows how to fly a Cessna through a canyon."

That may be right. But maverick sulked and cried like a little baby when things went wrong. Doug wanted revenge straight away, and stopped at nothing to do it.

Although Doug has no real skills whatsoever, He'd definitely win - as someone saida bove - he has his "if you're listening to this something has gone wrong", not to mention the rest of the SUPERB 80's tracks... Maverick on the other hand would be listening to freakin "TAKE MY BREATH AWAY" and "You've got that lovin feeling"

reply

Doug Masters.

Maverick would be too busy showering, gelling his hair and polishing his white teeth after playing volleyball while Doug would be jammin to "One Vision" and looping behind him in the desert.

my vote pete "maverick" mitchell

in training and sheer ability alone pete "maverick" mitchell would win straight up..hes trained to be ruthless, cunning and calculating and to use missles and to avoid useing the gun pod...

doug just has natural ability when he has his earphones on his head but smart well lets face it without chappy with the 101 reasons to continue on and step by step instructions doug would be screwed... "dad im out of missles and low on g-pod rounds what do i do..."

but compareing an F-16 a joint strike fighter to an F-14 an air support fighter... means this... doug would be dead before he ever saw mavrick and his tomcat as the tomcat has a larger radar range and longer range missle package that can range from pheonix's and maverick's and other A.T.A. weaponry to the 2 sidewinders on the F-16 and whatever armourment the f-16 was loaded with....

i saw an f-14 in actual flight doing a land and refuel and let me tell you you hear those twin turbines you damn near pee your pants cause you can hear it but you cant see it till it slows down and its wings come forward to give that menaceing look that makes you go HOLY *beep* WHERE DID HE COME FROM!! personally ill truely miss seeing those birds in the sky :(

and seeing a bunch of f-16s come and go not that impressive... oh lookan f-16 there he is now hes too far out i cant see him anymore...

another impressive sight is seeing an entire squadron of f-18s take off at the same time...

Why would using a missile be wiser than guns? Surely missiles would cost $100,000's, if not millions of dollars more than bullet rounds?

So are you just making up crap? Or basing it on something?

reply

why would it matter how much each missle costs the fact is your taxes pay for it...

every day the u.s. government fires missles and rockets and god knows how many other ordenance overseas yet we dont hear crap about it. cause its not news worthy. so why should it matter to you now how much 1 missle would cost??? if a missle that costs 100,000 dollars is gonna save my life and gonna kill you, while i actually dont actually engage in combat with you at close range then that 100k was well spent cause im still alive and your dead!!!

why are missle better becouse missles don't require you to actually get in close range of the other aircraft... you can be hell and gone from the other aircraft gain on and lock on and fire on the aircraft while that said aircraft is still looking for whatever shot at it...

reply

Doug Masters would kick Maverick boyband ass.

Maverick would be stupid enough to fly in to Masters "Jet Wash" and crash his Tomcat. Masters is the better pilot because he did more with out a wing man then Maverick could ever do with out his wing man. Plus while Maverick was fighting the Russians Masters was already fighting the next enemy.

To the dumbass that keep saying we all know what happens to Masters in Iron Eagle II needs to watch Iron Ealge IV because Masters was not killed he was just shot down.

reply

i'd say maverick has far more experience, but he's too reckless, could be his downfall. masters is just a rookie but he's a lot more passionate then maverick i think. maverick does it purely for the thrill, masters does it with heart and soul. and yeah, the music motivates him a lot.

reply

I'm Gonna Have To Say Niether! Iceman Would Come Out Of No Where, Say "You Two Really Are Cowboys" Have Missle Lock On Both There Sissy Ass's And That Would Be Game Over Boys! Then Slider Would Say "Splash Those Suckers, Yeah" And They'd Throw The After Burners On And Fly Off Into The Sunset! LOL

"Iron Eagle" was originally intended to be released in the summer of 1986, but the release was pushed up to January to avoid competition and confusion with "Top Gun".

reply

Doug Masters! Dude was only 18, no air force training, and he levelled half of Iran's military and blew their ace pilot out the sky. Plus he flew better with 80s rock music blasting out of the Walkman taped to his leg haha.

Funnily enough, the two actors who portrayed Maverick and Doug Masters (Tom Cruise and Jason Gedrick) both acted alongside each other (albeit briefly) in the movie Born on the Fourth of July. You also see Gedrick as an extra during a party scene in Risky Business, where he makes eye contact with Cruise as he walks by - talk about fate haha.

Buckle up back there, we're going into... hyperactive

Depends on how many friends Maverick brings along. Doug Masters has problems facing multiple adversaries - he has a tendency to get fixated in his target, allowing another pilot to sneak in behind him.

One on one, if Doug has his music on, Maverick doesn't have a chance. Maverick's chances of survival increase if Doug has no music.

If Maverick has a wingman then his chances of winning improve. The biggest deciding factor is still whether or not Doug has his music (or one of Chappy's motivational tapes).

The only way Maverick is guaranteed to win is if Doug is alone, Maverick is leading a flight of at least 4 aircraft, and he sends 2 in as bait. The only times Doug ever gets shot down is when he gets jumped from behind by 2 aircraft while attacking 2 or more others. The first time is in the simulator before he asks Chappy to help him rescue his father. The second is in the opening sequence of the second film, when Doug's wingman is out of the dogfight. In this situation, music or not, Doug will still shoot down at least one of them, possibly a second.

reply

Masters had the heart to rescue his dad on a mission of almost certain death. Maverick plays Volleyball.
