Watching this again on netflix so frigggin good
I read a couple threads. I mean I guess I saw the original at some point and I can see complaining that this isn't a true remake, but yeah it still creeps me out.
I think people are confused about the "campiness" of it. It's clearly being told from the perspective of a little kid. The story the dialog everything. You know how you'll rewatch a movie from when you were a kid and it's totally lame? This isn't like that. It's clear and simple the way I remembered it. I remember even having nightmares about this film after seeing it when I was like 7. You'll notice all the dialog is the way a kid would imagine it. "Great scott hasn't anyone got a penny!!?". Everything is straight out of a kid's dream after staying up reading too many EC comics. For me this is a true blue nostalgia film.
I watched Super 8 a while back and I think you can really compare the two on what to do and not do in a nostalgia film. Super is a clean bland generic monster movie trying to mimic the old ones where as Invaders takes the original and literally filters it from the perspective of a little kid. Everything about it screams "this is what scares little kids." Gah catching your creepy mean teacher eating a frog? Holycow.
Regardless yeah from film aficionados and the like sure it's nothing like the original I'm totally behind you. As a gen-x who grew up with the 80's films this feels like coming home. makes me want to pull my Weird Science books out of the closet.
