I question it being a 'true story'.

It was an OK film. Not bad for the genre, yet I tried Googling the event and it keeps coming up about this movie. Wouldn't of been more newsworthy if it had really happened? If there is a book or article about it please let me know. Otherwise, its rather silly to try to sell this as non-fiction especially as dramatic an event it has been portrayed.

My dad said he remembered hearing about it during that time.

Just weird that I can't find anything about it anywhere. Seems it would have been a bigger news story IMHO.

I'm sure the movie exagerated it a lot, just because it's an exploitation film. But, exploitation film or not, it was still entertaining nonetheless.

Same here. I found a news item about something like this happening on a very small scale in the year 2000, not 1984.
