Similarly desolate, nostalgic scores?

There has always been something incredibly haunting and beautiful about Mark Isham's score to The Hitcher that reminds me so much of long road trips and small towns, and not just because it is from a film that deals with such things.

Much of Marco Beltrami's score in Joy Ride (ie. the opening chords of the cues Ridin' Shotgun) gives me the same nostalgic feeling, as does some of Jack Nitzsche's music for Stand By Me.

Anyone have any suggestions for similar scores? I'd really appreciate it!

The new boards of canada Lp released tmrw

Track 3 is almost a reprise of the hitchers end theme

The entire album is stripped down and claustrophobic and taut and beautiful and eerie

Yeah, gotta agree with you there, a lot of the new boards album definately evokes 80`s Horror and Sci Fi films. Quality stuff.

Listen to Mark's score to The Beast(1988) which is a similar ambient/electronic piece to The Hitcher.

This. Also the Point Break Score, if you skip the several upbeat tracks

The Thing's score is similar.

A magnificent post.

Im also a big fan of nostalgic movie scores. I especially love The Hitchers "chase" music which appears during the 40 minute mark or so.

Yeah, I love this movie and its style. As you said "long road trips and small towns". I know exactly what you mean.

The music reminded me of Never Cry Wolf's, and then it turns out it's also by the same guy
