Should this be remade?

I really the book this is based on but I didn't think the movie was that great. I think they should remake it with more details and funny stuff from the book.

I saw HEARTBURN a few times and felt the movie should have been better. In fact, I took the time to write a review on the User Comments that I titled "Not a Bad Movie But Could Be Better." I never thought about whether this film should be remade although I can think of a number of scenes I probably would have done differently if I were making it. In fairness though, I understand that during the filming, scenes had to be constantly rewritten because Carl Bernstein was incensed by the fact that Nora Ephron (his ex-wife and writer of the book and film) was portraying him as the heavy in this movie. He went as far to challenge the script and see to it that his character's bad behavior was toned down. It's too bad Bernstein interferred with this project because I think the movie probably would have been better otherwise. While I have never read the book version, I figure that chances are the movie version would have been similar to the book.

Something peculiar happened in turning the book into a movie, that's for sure. It seems to me that not just Rachel, but everybody was much funnier and smarter in the book.

Nora Ephron wrote great columns, and in some ways the book reflects this. the strength of the book was in the anecdotes, not the plot. This makes it harder to turn the book into a movie.

There is something else not quite right about the movie, though I enjoyed it. Meryl Streep seems to have altered her very cheekbones to become Rachel Samstat. There are some shots where I would not have been able to identify her if I didn't already know.

I did wish they had included the scene where Richard asks Rachel to marry her at the zoo. It was the high point of the book for me.

I guess I might feel differently if I had read the book, but I really enjoyed this movie and I think Mike Nichols assembled one of the best casts I have ever seen in a single film and I think the entire cast really delivers strong performances, especially the stars, who have rarely been more appealing onscreen.

If they remake it then it'll be terrible. Classics should not be raped by the lack of talent that exists in Hollywood during this sad era.

I agree. Leave well enough alone.

Hmmm...I've got an idea. Maybe someone in Hollywood should green light an ORIGINAL SCRIPT IDEA. No more damn remakes.

Wow I had forgotten I started this thread. I agree that classics shouldn't be remade but this movie was just not very good. The cast is great as actors and all but were just not as good as the book.

Yes.

The movie didn't do justice to the (albeit somewhat fledgling at the time) all-star cast. They should remake this movie and bring in the old cast for cameos.

I just watched it, and... It shouldn't have been made the first time.

I can't think of one thing I would want to change, except to give me more. Loved that Key Lime Pie in face scene, that Mark deserved.

Goodbye.

Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.
