Their social class. They seemed like they would've been


upper middle class to lower UPPER class; esp. since he was a columnist and she worked in published herself.

Were they NOT rich in this movie, or were they just very frugal?

Plus, their friends are wealthy. That house where she was bored to tears because the men were ignoring her @ the dinner table, that woman was definitely rich & that house a mansion.

They got their home at a bargain price and were fixing it up. It is probably in a great location and will have loads of charm when it's done. A lot of people prefer this to buying a home that's already perfect. It has nothing to do with how much money they have or make.

This adds personality and the opportunity for comedy to the movie.
