it is a 1940s war film somehow made in the 1980s

I saw this film years ago and it annoyed me a lot.
It was unrealistic, not least due to Eastwood's age and it was full of cliches,BUT watching it again tonight I realise it is actually good of its kind.

It is a 1940s John Wayne film made in the 1980s with Clint Eastwood.

It tries too hard to be hip,the men are,I expect, too badly behaved to be in an elite unit, and Grenada was perhaps not such a great victory as it is shown in the film but it is an enjoyable film.

and its that kinda of a good thing, I suppose

Actually its a 50s war film made in the 1980s: Take the High Ground!, with Richard Widmark and Karl Malden. Widmark takes a bunch of misfits and trains them up.

Clint Eastwood made the attempt to reconciliate, recognize his human frailties, attempts to talk about it however uncomfortable. Contrast this to John Wayne any similarities?

reply

Absolutely. In Harms Way as one example.

Searchers is another. you're speaking of the John Wayne stereotype (which is similar to Clint's), but I doubt you're actually seen too many of his films

I fail to see what's enjoyable about this turd. But you are right about one thing: The movie feels quite outdated, as much as those silly (although usually entertaining) war movies from the 50's. No more no less.
