Origin of the slang word SICK?

Of course no one really knows where a slang word originates from but as i was watching the movie the other day i noticed that the marine named 'profile' said the line "I will tell you who's 'sick' ..Gunny Highway is the 'sickest' individual that's been my sorry pleasure to ever come across".. This has to be the earliest time in the MEDIA that the slang term "sick" has ever been used and recorded.. I had never heard it used before in the 80's and i hear it was started in the 90's.. This movie came out in 1986 and i never really started to hear people use the word as slang till the late 90's.
Could this be the first time it was ever used on film or TV? Just an interesting little nugget..

He wasn't using it as a synonym for "cool" or "awesome". It was more like "he's a real sick puppy" or a "sick bastard." As in twisted or nuts.
