Highway's ex wife

Do you mean to tell me that the only reason they were first divorced, then she kicked him out of her home and acted like a new fool throughout this movie even till the end was because he had the good sense and courage to leave her selfish behind to go fight so that she could enjoy the freedoms that her country afforded her as a good husband should? Did I miss something here? If so, please tell me. She was mad because he was "not around" to go shopping with her selfish *bleep* to purchase curtains while she'd probably rib him everytime he even looked in the general direction of a female shopper. Yet he leaves her monkey butt for a short time so that she CAN shop and she bursts a brain capsule.

Someone correct me here but wasn't that *bleep* *bleeping" cruuuuaazzzyyyyy?

I think the main problem between them is that she thought Highway was too stoic and uncaring and didn't care about her when she was stateside. Or maybe she was just high maintenance and constantly needed to feed off him to be happy. It's not like today where a soldier thousands of miles from home can just e-mail or call on morale phones. A letter sent that took 2 weeks was usually the norm

Based upon what you said, the bi!ch was crazy, right?

I just have so much respect for the men who fight for us and sacrifice their lives so that we can be free. The way she acted made me so mad. She should have known what she was getting into when she married him. And if she was in fact a high maintainence woman that is typical of so many and I feel sorry for the men who get trapped with them.

Sorry for the rant but I could not get past her disrespect at all. They should be lifted up, not beaten down as they are doing their best.

Thanks for the response. I did not know about some of the things you mentioned.

Peace

Don't forget that she tells him to save his sweet talk for one of his bimbo's. This makes me believe that he may have been a womanizer, plus he obviously also had a drinking problem. Add those 2 factors together, and it will kill a marriage.

Yeah I know. I just thought her behavior was a bit extreme after so much time had passed since they parted ways. It seemed as though she was holding an over-the-top grudge that was very childish and unrelenting no matter what he said or did. I just believe that in spite of the fact that things may not have worked out for whatever reason between them, there would be no cause for her to not behave in a civil manner. And then in the end, she 'all of a sudden' came to her senses and acted like a rational, mature and forgiving human being during his return home.

Peace.

WAY old post... but...

Remember the scene were they are dancing and the unit gets put on alert. Well, she turns around and he's gone. No 'goodbye' not 'sorry Darling, I've gotta go', nothing.

That's pretty much putting your job ahead of your wife. Her role (in a sense I agree with you) is to understand and support his job as she knew what it was before they got married, but he should at least say goodbye. I think that showed the kind of person he was.

They were married right after high school, yet in both the first jail scene and when Highway introduced himself to recon platoon, he stated that he has "banged more quiff." He was not a faithful husband, while his wife was afraid to watch the news out of fear that she would see him in a body bag, yet remaining faithful.

Why would a good looking, medal of honor recipient, marine gunnery sergeant, be after his ugly, bitchy ex wife anyway?
