Why Terence Marsh?

Haunted Honeymoon is not very fondly remembered, and I place part of the blame on the lackluster script. This invites the question of why Terence Marsh, an otherwise great production designer, was chosen to write with Gene.

Does anyone know the story of why such a random candidate was selected to write the film?
