this was sort of a werewolf spoof after the most famous frankenstein spoof with gene wilder (young frankenstein), i've always known about this but didn't watch it until now, it seems like most of the movies gene wilder made without mel brooks or richard pryor has become fairly obscure and overlooked, with some obvious exceptions like willy wonka and sherlock holmes brother, there was such a praise for gene wilder when he passed, but the last decades he got parts in tv movies and guest appearances on sit coms, i feel like, if you're gonna make a big fuss about a star passing maybe not forget them for the last thirty years, right. this has a great supporting cast too which are not being mentioned on the dvd cover, and the play on names from old werewolf movies are great fun, the little short lady from an episode of "fawlty towers" that basil couldn't spot is surprisingly a riot in this, another person i've never seen elsewhere besides playing the daddy butler on "remainder of the day" here much lighter as uncle francis, the bed scene between jr and wilder went on a bit too long. as someone who loves radio dramas, especially the 21st century "twilight zone" ones, i love that this was a story revolving around that. i didn't realise there was a movie from the 1940s with identical title. dom deluise completely steals the show (as pretty much always?) after his explosive entrance just laying everything down clearly the way it is and makes the movie worth checking out, he is a freaking riot.

bundled up on festered ground,
once promising now only you shine,
dont feel right and you dont belong,
undeserving of your presence wish i could lead you home,
all day you stayed on a disgraced lawn,
pray for your soul not to be harmed,
a shining house transformed use to bring me hope,
nauseous soul cant wait for you to come back in the warmth.
