Mismarketed?

This movie was far, far from being a horror movie. It should not have been called horror at all. What is it then? Artsy, pretentious Victorian era inspired crap. Just weird for the sake of being weird, and not very entertaining either. Anyone agree?

Ditto. All of the above. Mind numbing pretentious equine manure. Ken Russell was laying awake nights dreaming up weird scenes for the next day. There were any number of scenes where he seemed to be making it up as he went along.

I believe he thought he could get five drug-addled hippies -- dress them in period clothes, give them the names of famous early 19th century poets -- and get away with all manner of cinematic self indulgence. That's how it appeared to me. It helps to remember this is the sort of crap Russell is known for.

you idiotas, this movie was big time horror, maybe not your typical jason vorhees type, but it was still horror. Of if anyone a it was a bizarre drama with horror elements. Also this movie was awesome.

Gothic is set about a hundred years before the birth of Queen Victoria, so points off there. If all pre-20th Century periods are "Victorian era" to you, you're hardly going to understand a movie about Romantic poets and writers.
