Why no DVD release?

Kino Video released La Chevre and Les Comperes in 2003 on DVD, but this one still hasn't been released... don't they have the rights to this film in the US?

Well as far as I know they have released it in some places. Here in Denmark they have, I bought it 3 weeks ago. So maybe it will soon come other places?

I'd also love to own this, but I haven't been able to find a copy with English subtitles. Amazon France has it, but not with English subtitles. You can get the American remake everywhere, but not the original gem.

Actually there is a release. There's one with Les Comperes this one, I was watching it yesterday.

Well, it seems that I have some good news for some people. There's now an Australian company called Madman Films which is listing as Les Fugitifs as coming soon, with English subtitles - a Google search will give you more info.

Suffice to say that I've been waiting for this for some time and I've put a preorder in.

You're right, steempy! Several Australian sites are listing Les Fugitifs for an August release.
They also have a 3-disc boxed set of Francis Veber comedies, but none of the sites actually say what the three films in the set are, only that Les Fugitifs is part of it.

Having received my Les Fugitifs DVD, I have to say the English subtitles are somewhat disappointing. They're clunky to the point of detracting from the movie at times. They remind me of someone using Altavista's Babelfish to translate text. In addition to that, here and there it's less than clear which character is meant to have said which line, which throws some confusion into the mix.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "don't buy it", it's still a great movie and watchable, but as I said, it's a bit disappointing. I don't know about the other two movies in the set (I have the Kino Video editions of those), but the subtitles on the Madman release of Les Fugitifs are a definitive negative.

If it's any help, I've just put my copy on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280013002621
