This film was ok, just ok. The reason this was the best of the "post-Final Chapter" films was the story was pretty well written, and Tom McLoughlin is a better director than any of the directors from Part V and on.
What would improve this film greatly would be to re-master the censored footage from the 'workprint' and re-insert it into the 'theatrical version'.
They need to do that with all the films in the franchise, restore all the censored gore and present the films the way they were meant to be seen.

For sure... the only films that are known to have footage (which still exists today) that could be added to the existing DVD editions are: Part I (missing Pamela Vorhees head rolling down the dock)... Part IV (only a few deleted plot scenes)... Part VI (censored kill scenes)... and Part VII (censored kill scenes)
I'm not positive... but I think the censored gore from Part II and Part III are lost forever (very unfortunate)... Part V and Part VIII might have cut footage, that still exists, but I'm not sure.
A "director's cut" of Part VI and Part VII are long overdue.
I agree. It seems pretty ridiculous to watch a movie with gore as its centerpiece and we can't even properly see it the way it was meant to be seen.
