I think because It begins in such an up beat way than transcends into a horrible deterioration and the end just fades to black
it was creepy but I was more shocked by the tragic end of it

Agreed. Seth and Veronica were so flirty and playful with each other at the beginning and the end is just such a gut punch.

I was 36 when I saw this at the the theatre, and I was loved it. I was greatly impressed with the effects and by Goldblum's performance. I thought he should have been nominated.
