This movie could have been great

The first half of the movie was great Great build up great suspense and wonder. The second half went downhill with the kid stuff. Still it was entertaining just disappointed with the drop of quality in the second half and it becoming a regular kid film after the seriousness of the first half.

Oh that's more funny then a screen door on a battle ship- Biff Tannen

This movie was and still is great. As far as it being a kids film the second half of the movie, it's a Disney film geared towards kids, so...yeah.

Yeah, many movies are like that. The beginning gives -so- much promise, tickles your imagination and inspires you to no end - and the rest of the movie just falls flat and doesn't deliver at all.

This movie is even worse, because it has an unsolvable paradox - if the movie's story happens, the movie's story can't happen - or the story can only happen, if it doesn't happen..

I explained it somewhere once, I am quoting myself:

"BEGINNING OF THE LOOP:
No "missing David" = "No police station" = "No trip to NASA" = "No navigator for Max" = "No time travel back to 1978" ...

... which would then mean ..

"No time travel back to 1978" = "Missing David" = "Police station" = "Trip to NASA" = "Navigator for Max" = "Time travel back to 1978" ..

... which would then mean ..

GO TO THE BEGINNING OF THE LOOP"

So yeah.. the movie is very strong and reminds me of E.T., Short Circuit, and some kind of epic sci-fi saga of UFO+TimeTravel wish-fulfillment - and then it just becomes so shallow and silly, and goes nowhere, and then ends.

The aerial shots are great, though, and this movie certainly has a heart. It just doesn't quite reach where it could've reached... it becomes too mundane too quickly and then it's just 'references' and 'comedy'.
