30th Anniversary

This movie opened in theaters on Friday, August 8, 1986, and this coming Monday will be its 30th anniversary. I drove myself to see it at The CINEMA in Rock Hill, SC, about 20 miles from where we lived, on the afternoon of Thursday, August 14, 1986, and it has three distinctions for me. The CINEMA was a big single screen theater that opened in the early seventies, and I had seen a good deal of movies there since the mid/late seventies. But it would close two months later, in October, 1986, and did well to stay open as long as it did, as by the early eighties single screen theaters were on the way out. And I was aware that it would soon close and wanted to see one final movie in it, and that is why I went to this one there that day. And thus it was the last movie I ever saw at The CINEMA. And an even bigger distinction it has for me is that it was the last movie I ever saw in a single screen theater (see my posting on the Friday the 13th Part VI Jason Lives board titled 30th Anniversary for more on this).

Another distinction it has for me is that it was the last movie I ever saw in a theater before I began college and became a college student, which would happen just over a week later, on Friday, August 22, 1986. I have not seen this movie since then, but plan to rent it out from netflix later this month and watch it on my dvd player for its 30th anniversary.
