Ferris the annoying twerp

What an overrated character. I failed to see how he's so likeable. Toward the end, just when I thought he was becoming slightly more redeemable by showing compassion for Cameron and being less cocky and self assured about his outrageous schemes, he started hitting on two female sunbathers, shortly after he asks his girlfriend to marry him... what a schmuck.

I can't stand the way he always figuratively rubs his hands at how awfully clever he thinks he is. Not to mention his sociopathic tendencies particularly demonstrated in the way he manipulates his "friend" Cameron.

You're both just jealous about not being as cool as Ferris is.

reply

He's not cool, he's just manipulated people into thinking he is. And I'm not jealous, I just don't drink the Kool Aid.

Haha, he is kind of a jerk in the movie at times. Once you realize that the entire movie is about helping Cameron though, and is the why behind Ferris' day off, then he doesn't seem so bad. Everyone likes him so much not because he's cool or something but because he goes to great lengths to help others, such as Cameron in this instance. I'll give you the sunbathers scene, Ferris seems to walk the line between hero and douche, but ultimately I think he's a good guy who indulges in harmless bad now and then.

reply

If Ferris really wanted to help Cameron, he would have killed his dad.

reply

Agreed. Jerk who's used to getting his way for no good reason. Why Cameron and Sloane like him I don't know.

Cameron probably only sticks with Ferris because its a friendship based on convenience and I'm sure they've known each other since they were kids... unless that was addressed in the film and I've missed it.

Probably. Ferris is the kind of friend you eventually outgrow. At 17, he seems amazing. At 35, you wonder what the hell you were thinking.

Now I like this movie myself, but if there's one thing I dislike about it... it's Ferris Bueller himself. So I agree with every one of these Bueller hate posts.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

Ferris ruins the whole film for me. I never understood what's supposed to be so cool and likeable about him. He just comes across as a spoiled brat who can get away with anything. Why would I want to root for a character like that?

Your problem is you, worry about yourself, not about what Ferris does....
