Was anyone else scared for Cameron?

Every time I watch this I just imagine Cameron's father getting home and beating the crap out of him.

reply

I wasn't afraid of him beating him, but I always thought Cameron's fantasy about having a 'talk with Maurice' was very naive. He built it up in his head that he and his dad would have a talk, as equals, and get everything out. But I never thought his dad would be open to any kind of 'talk'. There was no way Cameron could get that guy to see reason. I was afraid for Cameron just about how his dad would probably become more estranged after Cameron destroyed the only thing he loved.

reply

I always thought that the last shot of him looked like a "Killed in Vietnam" pose.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

reply

I kinda got a similar feeling. Like after this stunt Cam was going to be kicked out of his dad's house/pushed to join the army or something. Nothing really points to this, just a feeling.

reply

Well he does have to pay for the Ferrari.

reply

And the damage to the garage window as well.

reply

By the end of the movie, Cameron is more than capable of handling his dad and taking care of himself, although he does have to pay for the Ferrari, as shown in the movie Kickin it Old Skool.

reply

Yes. I don't know if Mr. Frye would beat Cameron. But I'd imagine that he'd probably kick him out of the house, cut him off financially, and disown him.

reply

I picture Cameron taking his father's gun and confronting his dad while the pistol is loaded and pointing. Then Cameron gets in his car still holding the gun and drives away forever.

reply

I have felt a sense of menace during the Ferrari's death scene.

I can imagine Mr. Fry grabbing Cameron and maybe slapping him at least once. A good punch to the head isn't totally out of the question.

Cameron may have been kicked out of the house or even jailed or at least taken to court.

reply

Yeah, those are certainties.

reply

I'm thinking something more in line with D'onofrio in Full Metal Jacket.

reply

I used to wonder if that would happen, but I have a more optimistic viewpoint of it now. Perhaps his father comes home and is somehow not as upset as you'd think. Maybe he forgives his son or even respects him for finally showing some backbone. Maybe his father also had a life-changing day and realized he should quit worshiping his car and start looking out for his family.

Or possibly there really is a major falling out here. Cameron, now being a legal adult, joins the military to get away from his father (who didn't press charges but never forgave his son). Would he have done that before? No.

It's all up to our imaginations, but I tend to view what might have happened in a more positive light than I once did.

reply

I don't think Cameron's dad cared about him at all. If Ferris really wanted to help, he would have simply murdered the scumbag.

reply

You all want this movie to be a whole lot darker than it is.

Lighten up, Francis.

reply

Yeah, that's how I saw it.

reply

Nooooo don't be silly he was fine. He said he would be, OVER FEEL GOOD 80'S SYNTHS!!. Did you not hear them kick in as Cameron was giving his speech?. Nothing can go wrong when you've got feel good synths like that.

reply

Cameron either:
A) Decided to ditch his father and never look back.
B) He was beaten up badly by his father and sent to a mental hospital.
C) Cameron killed himself.
D) Cameron killed his father with the rage he had all those years.

Probably C as bad as it may be.

reply

Wow, no way did JH mean options B,C,D, at worst A or along those lines and possibly a more optimistic choice E as mentioned by someone else above. Boy you really are a 90s kid, that's a pretty dismal, grungy 90s reading of an 80s movie.
