Sure, why not. And for him it would've been for the best. Avoiding that beating from his father at the end.

Cameron is psychosomatically ill and laying in bed. He thinks he's dying. This is depression. He has no friends. His parents don't pay attention to him. Plus look at him, you really think the coolest kid in school is gonna be that guy's friend?

He creates Ferris in his mind, the guy he wants to be, with loving parents, and a hot girlfriend. This is Cameron's ideal self. A guy who isn't afraid to steal his dad's Ferrari and jump on parade floats. Cameron takes a joyride around Chicago himself in his dad's Ferrari, because that's what "Ferris" would do.

Everybody at school cares about Ferris, which is what Cameron really wants. Literally everyone is talking about this guy. He doesn't get any affection at home and obviously doesn't have many friends, so obviously no one will notice or care if Cameron is gone. But everyone cares about Ferris. Notice how they go out of their way to say that every single clique loves Ferris? No cool kid like that has ever existed. That's because Cameron doesn't know what it's like to be "popular", so he's just imagining what he thinks it's like. The entire school falls apart without Ferris!

Cameron sees "Save Ferris" signs in random places because it's his subconscious telling him not to kill himself. This might seem a little dark, but there's literally a scene in the movie where the audience is led to believe that Cameron is drowning himself.

Rooney is his dad, it's someone in his life he's continually running from, but is finally able to confront in the end. I'm not sure what Ferris' sister would be in this theory, probably Cameron's mom, even though we don't get a lot of info on her.

Or it could just be a movie about kids skipping school. That's probably it.

reply

no because the movie doesn't start with him
