I weep for the future

Seriously each generation gets worse and worse. Bae, Derp, She want's the D...

You realize adults have been saying this about new generations for at least the last 3000 years.

reply

Haha, too true!

Sig, you want a sig, here's a SIG-sauer!

reply

Mine never sass me back or leave a ring around the bathtub.

reply

Sure, I bet Lincoln was lamenting to Mary how he was worried Todd was going to get sexual reassignment surgery.

Adam summarizes perfectly how criticizing newer generations is ridiculous.

You’re right, up to a point; but no previous generation had to tolerate the smug, unfunny Matthew Broderick and John Hughes.

reply

Oh, come on! John Hughes came from National Lampoon. He had to be a little bit funny.

reply

I knew guys at NatLamp. Michael Odonohue was funny and asked me to send him articles. Keep in mind: National Lampoon grew out of The Harvard Lampoon, and there’s no one more smugly self-satisfied than a Harvie. (Unless it is a Union man, like me.) All of Hughes’ movies reel of hauteur, a gift to the great unwashed. I find this particular movie to be repulsively self -satisfied and I despise the main character. I am glad that Broderick rejects the movie. Bravo.

Why can't they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids, today?

reply

All the chicken soup that I made for you!

I agree with costumrs, I remember hearing adults saying "what's wrong with kids these days" when I was just a kid. Now middle aged and I caught myself saying the same thing the other day.
Just part of getting older I guess.
In another 30 years or so I probably be shaking my cane telling those damn kids to get off my lawn lol.

reply

Ha ha! So true!!

reply

Regardless of what adults have been saying and how many years ever, that doesn't remove the possibility for every generation actually getting worse.

Think about millennials versus people that lived in ancient Greece or Edo Period japan. Do you think teenagers and young adults back then were more interested in staring at a portable rectangle than looking at the nature and conversing with people in real life?

There's 'typical teenage rowdy behaviour' (caused mostly by bad parenting), and then there's 'generational degradation' (or 'retardation' / 'decadence', if you will). People didn't openly worship demons and skulls back in the renaissance times. People listened to actual music during the baroque and classical eras (meaning, music was more understood and melodies were respected - now any rhythmic noise will do, as long as it grates the ears and destroys the soul).

There's definitely an observable decline, but because 'parents have been saying it for 3000 years lol', it's not allowed to be mentioned. I am so tired of people always grabbing the lowest hanging fruit. Try to climb a bit higher somtimes, it's good for you and you might see something you would otherwise miss.

Sigh.. Why do I even try.

reply

Today's youth seem far too.PC and sanctimonious.

reply

Who taught them to be that way?

reply

Nobody wants to face this particular question. The youth behave exactly the way they've been taught to behave. If the youth today are near-robots with no critical thinking skills, whose fault is that?

reply

Teachers and university lecturers with a Marxist agenda, turning people from free thinking individuals into narcissistic woke drones.

reply

"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for
authority, they show disrespect to their elders.... They no longer
rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents,
chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their
legs, and are tyrants over their teachers."

Plato.

reply

Well, back then they weren't burning cities down under the guise of peaceful protesting now were they...

reply

During Ancient Greece society had slaves and women had few rights.

I hardly consider that generation superior to the current generation.

The same thing with the renaissance, baroque and classical eras.

And not to forget how violent wars were back then and the insurmountable loss of life compared to this day and age.

Human life had less value back then, especially if you didn’t come from nobility and weren’t male.

Humanity keeps progressing. Boomers are better than greatest generation, Gen X are better than Boomers, Millenials are better than Gen X, and Zoomers are better than all of them.

reply

Explain how the successive generations are “better,” because I don’t believe you.

reply

I did. Human life has more value now than they did before. We no longer see humans killing each other in spectacles like during Roman times. Slavery has been made illegal in many parts of the world. Wars are not as deadly as before. In the U.S., lynchings don’t happen anymore.

Plus, there is much more tolerance for diversity and other cultures. More acceptance of lgbtq people.

That is why I have great respect for the up and coming zoomers.

He already posted this link which goes into great detail about it .

Just one example is there are a lot more MLB pitchers now that can go over 100 mph than 20 years ago .
so ... better

reply

Baseballs are thrown faster? What an asinine argument.

reply

thats just one example of how all sports are played to a higher standard today and the professionals of 30 years ago could not compete

reply

Human life today probably has less value than it has ever had in the past. So much so that the ruling elite continually discuss the 'problems' of overpopulation, which is just their way of letting you know they're working on newer, better ways to kill the rest of us.

(see: 2020, BLM riots, "mass shootings," Ukraine, etc.)

reply

There are too many people in this world. Human overfecundity amounts to genocide against other species

reply

Found one.

You think this is a new thing? Elites have been criticizing overpopulation for several millenia.

And when you see how entire populations have been devastated centuries ago compared to today, it is difficult to argue that human life had more value back then.

reply

avortac4 is right. Just because it's been said before, doesn't mean it's not true now, and even worse than it was.

reply

I think every adult thinks this. I'm an adult and personally, I think my generation (GENX) was the last generation that had it really good. This is based on the fact I come from the last generation where I was young and in my prime at a time before everyone was a lawyer, and before sexually transmitted diseases could kill you. It was a great time to be young, tons of fun. I can't see how it would be better today. As far as the current generation being worse, well I wouldn't say that. But what does concern me is the lack of athleticism. The township I live in built a stable of beautiful outdoor basketball courts. They are always, I mean ALWAYS empty. I never see anyone shooting hoops. Since I know in my day those courts would have been constantly filled, it makes me wonder - about the youth of today - what do you guys do all day???

reply

I feel sorry for the millennials and zoomers. They've been so thoroughly brainwashed into believing the government will watch over them the way mommy and daddy did, they will never be truly independent.
