What did Ferris become as an adult?

I say stock broker.

He wouldnt be able to sit still for stockbroker. He'd be taking Years Off instead of a Day Off

He worked for a few years as a Computer Science teacher, and now is Principal of the high school he attended in the movie.

A serial rapist and murderer?

Actually he's too serendipitous for all that.

Whatever he set his heart to...

With Sloane as his wife.

reply

"With Sloane as his wife."

He's a sociopath. He has no intention in marrying Sloane - he only says whatever the other party wants or needs to hear at any given moment, or whatever he needs to say to keep things moving in the direction he wants.

I don't think Ferris can be defined by some corporate wage slavery position, he doesn't fit the 'mold'.

I could see him as a 'spiritual guru', laughing all the way to bank after spouting 30 minutes of superficial, but spiritual-sounding nonsense to clueless audiences. Maybe a TV evangelist, or something similar.

He could form his own religion, like that Scientology guy.

He could definitely do something as devious and large-scale, and something as unique and new. Therefore, it's hard to pin down. If we take the 'day off' as his most true self, then it's clear that he doesn't really want to work any more than he wants to be in school of any kind.

His next project would probably be 'Ferris Bueller's Life Off', and he could become an artist in 'avoiding work and yet living comfortably'. He'd find a way to scam people out of their money (a more sinister or large-scale version of the more innocent stuff he's already doing in the movie - maybe 'industrialized' or at least 'systematized' version).

He could become a new Derren Brown or a tourist guide (he is guiding us through the movie very skillfully, just as a tourist guide would guide us through some ancient ruins or sceneries).

In a way, I think Ferris symbolizes and manifests the 'freedom-seeker' in all of us, that do not want to work, but instead, enjoy life and cultivate ourselves, create and truly live. Therefore, he wouldn't fit any 'one job', but he could sometimes do many different ones, out of necessity.

One thing we must remember; luck is always at Ferris's side, so he would always easily get by without too much effort, and people around him would love him regardless of his activities - though through false basis, but hey, that's his sociopathic way.

A bit more about the 'marriage' aspect;

I think he says "I may have to marry Sloane" at one point, which clearly indicates that he'll do it, if it becomes a necessity, but you can't keep Ferris tied down for long, so a break-up would be soon inevitable. Ferris is not the type that stays faithfully in the marriage and settles down and has two and a half kids, etc.

He seems to be more of a unique character, world traveller, pleasure-seeker, someone, who doesn't believe in the 'you have to work' mantra, and who can see and think outside the box - and ends up living outside the box. He's skilled in slithering away from responsibilities and dodging obstacles and obligations, sidestepping tasks and workloads, and aiming for what he wants instead.

Do you think he wouldn't want to take a 'day off' from the marriage, if he decided to end up in such? Surely he would! His personality is sipping Pina Coladas under a Hawaiian palm tree, while he gets others to do the hard work and worrying.

He would marry Sloane if it advanced his agenda or plans, but he doesn't intend to end up 'having Sloane as his wife'. That's a fema-romantic nonsense aspect, Ferris has bigger plans. Like, having a 'life off'..

(That's a movie I'd watch - Ferris Bueller's Life Off)

I always pictured some sort of Bernie Madoff type of lifestyle for Ferris. Sloane turned into a trophy wife/Real Housewives type He was a natural born swindler and pathological. Love this movie.
