Felt sorry for the Rapiest at the end of the movie

During the whole movie I hated the rapiest. But at the very
end when he is confessing and crying I felt so sorry for him.
He was so pitful.

reply

I didn't. He would of killed her and also her roommates when her roommates got home. *beep* should of had his skull crush.

reply

I know what you mean here, and I think it was meant this way. Not necessarily to make anybody feel sorry for this man, considering what he did to Marjorie and the other women. But it was a moment of humanizing him, which I think is what the movie is about. He objectified his victims, he didn't see them as human beings, which allowed him to follow through with committing these horrible crimes. Likewise, Marjorie sees him only as an animal. She is only familiar with him as a rapist and criminal, which enables her to exact revenge on him and plan for his death. When he reveals this small bit of information about himself, and his attempt to be a dutiful husband to his wife by making her feel safe, it's an uncomfortable moment for the viewer, too, because what we really wanted was for Marjorie to crush his skull. It's uncomfortable to think that a rapist isn't just some unknown monster that comes from nowhere, it could be someone that we know and love.

reply

No, he wasn't trying to be a dutiful husband. His wife was worried about being attacked, he told his wife that she wouldn't have to worry because the rapist didn't want her. He was very dismissive of her. And he fixed the door probably with the same smirking grin on his face as he had during the majority of the movie. Yes, it is all well and good that Marjorie didn't let her anger make her into him, I on the other hand would have let him fertilize the tomatoes.

reply

"Let him fertilize the tomatoes..." Bravo RoppongiQueen....brilliant! LOL, and I couldn't agree with you more!

reply

Agreed.

reply

I agree. Joe at the end of the movie is genuinely pathetic and vulnerable. The fact that the movie refuses to make him out to be a total monster is one of the key reasons why it's so powerful and provocative.

I like that the movie changes tunes half way and you find yourself disliking Marjorie. Or at least I did. Very effective, in my opinion, how they change monsters on us.

I never felt sorry for Russo's character, though, everything seemed calculated and sneaky, you can tell cause he's always smirking like a smart ass. Even when he was vulnerable I still didn't find his character sympathetic. It works, though, and I can see how some did.

You got it, dood! I gleefully imagine the pitiful screaming, crying and begging for mercy that prick-waste of humanity would've been doing had I been the one there, as I ripped his atrophied nutsack off with my bare hands! WOOT! WOOT!

I agree with kitten252. If I had half a chance, that guy would have been choking on his own ballsack! Felt sorry for a rapist?! Who feels sorry for a rapist?!

Where was the sympathy for Marianne, after all she went through? Her douche roommates were just worried about him! I would have clobbered them all.

Thinking like that is the reason that people like him are still on the streets . How could anyone feel sorry for him after what he did and was going to do if he had the chance ? They don't call them cons just because there convicts!

reply

I would absolutely destroy him if I were her and had the chance. Especially with no roomates there. . .the things that would happen to that man would be insane. And he would not live. It wouldn't be justice, scum doesn't deserve the civility of justice, it would be far beyond that.

reply

I did not.

He was a very nasty man and credit to Russo for the way he portrayed him.

It's that man again!!
