From what I remember, Tom Waits originally said he was going West, but near the end they just agreed to go in opposite directions, which of course, was a metaphor.

Also, wasn't Roberto reciting Frost's The Road Not Taken at one point? I don't know Italian, but I recognized a few cognates and his "hand talk", and that's what I assumed. So, two roads diverged in a black-and-white wood.
