not as many posts as i expected

i thought this movie was pretty well known. I've watched it at least forty times and thought it was hilarious. I don't like it as much as I did before I watched the crap out of it. Anyways I just wondered what everyones fave parts are. Mine is at the party on new years eve...everyone is going nuts and little richard is playing tuttie fruttie on the piano and the dad is trying to kill jerry. Ha ha ha.......

Did you know that vodka comes from a potato?--Bette Midler, Down and Out in BH

God, no kidding, only eight topics? Anyway, I'd have to say my favorite scene is the very last one, when Nick Nolte announces he's leaving for good, storms out and starts eating garbage with the family's dog. Everyone walks out and kind of looks at him longingly - cue the Talking Heads' "Once in a Liftime" - while he's got that pate on his nose. Nobody speaks. Then he gathers his dignity and storms right back. Credits roll. Love that ending.

I love that song too. Overall I thought the movie was a great idea. bette midler was a great choice. I've seen the daughter in a couple of anorexic movies on lifetime...not kidding.

Huh, yeah, I'm not surprised because I haven't seen her in anything other than being Jerry's look-alike girlfriend on "Seinfeld." I thought she was pretty hot in this movie and not a bad actor.

I bought the "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" soundtrack only because I assumed "Once in a Lifetime" was on it. It wasn't. I still can't believe that. Had to wait for technology to catch up so I could download it.

funny thing...when i watched it last night...i noticed he didn't get close enough to actually get the "pate' " on his nose...he wuz at least an inch or 2 away from it when he noticed the fam.

I really liked the part where Jerry is floating in the pool and Dave is running around the pool with the phone in his hand yelling "Call 911....Call 911..."

reply

This movie is hilarious! Me and my friend always act out the "pool scene" at my pool. "Call 911! Call 911!"

That's one of my favorite scenes and the scene where Bette Midler gets drunk, lol.

"Did you know vodka comes from a potatoe?!" haha great movie!

I'm addicted to "Once In a Lifetime"!
The first time I watched the movie I had to download it!

i love this flick!

the rant by little richard on the front lawn is awesome...

i dig when carmen finally rejects Dave, babbling about communism saying
'you're a TRAITOR to your cause!'
and he goes muttering away as you hear a baby crying in the background...

i like the scene where the movie exec approaches jerry in the restaurant
and he totally goes with it...

the end is great too with them all slumped and hungover in their
chairs by the pool as he confesses his b.s., person by person...

the movie has a lotta slapstick, but i also found the themes intriguing...
seen it many times... i think it's pretty underrated... especially
for a big-80's-style comedy...

IMDB deletes old posts every so often. I thought that was what this thread was about but after reading the posts, I guess not.

I just watched in for the first time in about 20 years and it was even more hilarious than I remembered it being, probably because I was too young to understand a lot of it the first time.

Anyway, my favorite part would be where Barbara is getting the back massage and she screams in ecstasy and everyone looks up outside. That was great 

It's been a few years since I last watched and I liked the scene in which they are all walking over the fire and the Mike the dog also walks over the fire with everyone cheering him on.
