Who is Brigitte Lin's character based on?

I watched this film again after reading up on Yoshiko Kawashima, a Manchurian princess from the last royal family, who was educated in Japan and worked for the Japanese in Manchuria throughout the 1930s. She was executed as a traitor by the Chinese after the war. Brigitte Lin's character in PEKING OPERA BLUES is politically quite the opposite, but the two women are quite similar in their manner of dress and hairstyle and the way they carried themselves. I'm curious to know if the historical figure of Kawashima provided any kind of inspiration for Lin's character.

For the record, Anita Mui starred in a film about the life of Kawashima, KAWASHIMA YOSHIKO (aka THE LAST PRINCESS OF MANCHURIA, 1990) and I watched that for the first time right after re-watching PEKING OPERA BLUES. As much as I love Anita Mui, I couldn't help but think how much better the later film would have been if Brigitte had played the role.
