Every guitar player's favorite movie

Watching Steve Vai with a guitar (logo taped up) cutting heads for the Devil.

Goodtimes, but I think his guitar is a Charvel. Who else started playing guitar because of this movie?

"Do you promise to reject Satan and all of his evils?
-Sure."

Well I started playing when I saw La Bamba at 6 but my first memory was the headcutting. This movie will change a boys life forever trying to play guitar. A FREAKIN MEN GUITAR PLAYERS MOVIE #1.

Just think, if you're still playing, you now have 12 years under your belt. Steve Vai was only playing for 14 years when he did this movie!

I'm 46 and I just picked up my first guitar 2 weeks ago 

I taught myself to play classical guitar a couple of years ago. I've been solid classical guitar up until I borrowed this movie from a friend of my two months ago. I can't put down my electric guitar now.

Woodstock ! Or Any movie that has Jimi Hendrix ! And Lee's playing on Ten Years after "Going Home" That movie made me PUT AWAY my Guitar because I told myself "I want to be the best and there's no way I can beat that" That being Jimi Hendrix ! RIP !

I love, love, LOVE Alvin Lee on Going Home in Woodstock. No one has ever heard of the guy, but I still think he's awesome!

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Are you Kidding...this movie totally inspired me as young lad. I saw it back in the late eighties, and excited enough to flick through an Argos catalogue, looking at small selection of guitars, though in the end I never did get one...just as well..seeing as i'm sure i'd have the natural skills of Dave Lister (Red Dwarf). The film, especially the guitar duel remains one of a number of gems to come out in 1986 (one of the greatest years in american filmmaking). This movie also exposed me to the talents of Ry Cooder and blues music. Very underrated

Actually, it had the opposite effect on me...i couldn't stand Vai's heavy-metal tongue-waggling crap in that movie. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Steve Vai as a guitarist just being himself and playing his own music. I have nothing but respect for that amazing man. But all those '80s hair-band antics left me absolutely cold, not from Steve particularly but from anyone. My reaction was: stop acting like an idiot and just play the *beep* thing! lol.

That was the point Veronica65!

reply

yea but we dont wanna watch someone so cool acting like a douche, even if their acting. and anyone other than macchio would have been better, he's so annoying. the music in this film is amazing, the film...not so much
