Eraserhead anyone?

I had just watched Eraserhead a few weeks before seeing this film, does it seem strangely similar to anybody else? It's like Eraserhead with an excuse to be weird. I like the movie alot, but it's basicly a retelling of Eraserhead.

reply

Yes, the depressed theme of the film and the bizarre images are quite similar to Eraserhead. However, The stories aren't similar.
If you don't mind low budget films that are "different" I'd check this one out.

Eraserhead has a story???

According to Michael Weldon, the director cites both "Eraserhead" and "Taxi Driver" as favorite films that may have influenced his work.

reply

Eraserhead doesn't necessarily have a "story", but it is a piece of art that is left up to the viewer to interpret. Combat shock however, is a little lacking, but it is a nice low budget piece of celluloid.

reply

Eraserhead is a lot more disturbing and interesting than this. I don't hate combat shock, but its not really worth watching more than once.

These cartoons are truly bizarre and frightening!

I actully found Combat Shock to be better then Taxi Driver and Eraserhead.

I don't think it's at all like Eraserhead except for the deformed baby.

Exactly.

the director has said that he was influenced by both taxi driver and eraserhead while making this film.

Eraserhead is a corny *beep* *beep* movie. I *beep* hate Lynch

Combat Shock is way better then Eraserhead. But it's not as good as Taxi Driver.

Eraserhead is possibly the least "corny" film in existance. Idiot.

Yes, worst use of an adjective so far in this thread.

From my understanding, the similarities between this and Eraserhead are as follows:

SPOILERS*****SPOILERS*****SPOILERS*****SPOILERS

-Both have a main character that has fathered a deformed child

-Both films are rather bleak, Combat Shock depicting an incredibly depressing picture of scum-ridden Staten-Island, and Eraserhead inspired by the dull, industrial landscape of Pittsburg

-Both of the film's finales involve the main character killing their son

-Both films even have a humidifier in their main character's appartments.

That being said, those are only superficial similarities, one could also state that both films feature extensive scenes of the protagonist wandering around their respective surroundings, but so does Taxi Driver, and many other films. The influence of Eraserhead is clear, but it's merely that, influence. In my opinion, both are absolute masterpieces in their own right.
