Horrible - Painfull to Watch

OK, I may have a very slanted view of this movie for 2 reasons; One, I attended a military school for 6 years. The same military school that my father and grandfather attended. And 2) it was at the military school where this film was shot: Kemper Military School & College, Boonville, Missouri. Just as a side note-they wanted to film "Taps" there, but our president at the time, a retired 2 star general and the best president, in my opinion, we ever had, said no, because, in his words, "It portrayed the military school student as a radical." And we could have used the publicity and the money.

Now don't get me wrong, I love a good farce, but this movie wasn't even that. Try Mad's "Up the Academy". "Taps" was great in that it showed that the cadets were willing to fight for their school. We, the Alumni, did the same thing when the verdict to close Kemper came down, we fought as best we could. The funny thing about that movie: when it came out, they took away our armory at the school. Another great movie is "Lords of Discipline."

While it has a lot of stars in it, it is very weak in a lot of areas. For my money, it hurts to watch it as the school is gone. And the main charcter's actions bear nothing like when I was there.

Agreed - it was painful, indeed. I do, however, have different reasons for my pain. I don't really care what school is portrayed in what light - this is nothing, but a film. Unfortunately a very bad one. The 'protagonist' was absolutely obnoxious and the script is plain stupid. As we know, the basic plot is OK, as several other movies have proved it, but there has to be some material to work with and here it is really lacking for my taste. It was silly, juvenile and the for the first whole hour I wanted to punch the main character in the face more then any 'antagonist' in the film might have.

I may have smiled once at the very end though. Did that warrant for the existence of this film? Not for me, thank you.

You, your father and your grandfather eh? Spot the family of brain-washed dolts who can't think for themselves.

Spoken like a true Leftist.

Your stunning lack of knowledge on life, politics and history is truly amazing.

Your username is "MsJackieO", meaning that you admire the late Jackie Onassis who was the widow of the assassinated (by a card-carrying communist, I might add) President John F. Kennedy.

President Kennedy was a Democrat, before the Democrats were hijacked by the New Left. President Kennedy was a conservative through and through-he lowered taxes and built up the military & vowed to fight communism, all CONSERVATIVE VALUES!

If you knew anything-anything at all of the history and the makeup of the Left and the history of our military and the conservative philosophy, then you would know that:

A)Our military allows you make ignorant statements such as your post of several days ago; NOT the First Amendment or the ACLU.

B)Our all-volunteer military is made up of by far the most intelligent soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines EVER in our 200 years-plus of history. Hardly brain-washed dolts, you should get to know some of us on a personal level.

C)The Left engages in a practice that psychologists call "projecting", in which a person projects the faults, inadequacies, shortcomings, insecurities, etc. of himself onto others, particularly people perceived to be adversaries or enemies. Ergo, I think it is YOU who is the brainwashed dolt who can't think for herself.

I was raised in a liberal family and have seen the light; there is hope for you, too.

Before you next type out a load of neo-conservative tosh, make sure you know what the person meant beforehand. You clearly missed my politic-free point in your bid to see what you want to see (and you try and lecture about projecting???)

BTW, I LOL'ed real hard at your asinine conclusion that because you assumed someone doesn't agree with your beliefs then that person is without free will.

And I LOL'ed even harder at your them and us rhetoric, painting myriad differing values as being sworn enemies out to destroy each other, where this clandestine organization called The Left is out to subvert the nation. Once again, it makes a mockery of your claim to be of free thought when displaying anything but such behavior. You're a republican wet dream. What next son, wanna go shoot some evil Commies?

As for the left, it isn't a thing, it isn't an entity, and it isn't indigenous to the United States of America. Left wing politics existed before America was even discovered by the white man. And the US left is viewed as right wing by the rest of the western world - so where does that leave your republican-spoon-fed-zealot thinking? That that entity you despise so much, that meets on every 3rd Tuesday to discuss brain-washing strategy in a bid to instill those dreaded Commie values, isn't actually so left-wing after all?

Then, laughed-out, I was gobsmacked at your inane statement about what the military allows by way of free speech and how it's not the first amendment. BTW, what about other nations that had free speech before the US? What about those that continue to enjoy free speech? And without the US military or compulsion to the Bill of Rights? Kinda forgot that one, didn't you, Joe Bob?

But like I said, practice what you preach and stop projecting. It would save you rambling like a buffoon for no damn reason after spectacularly missing the point.

Off you go, polish your gun and stand for the playing of the national anthem. Don't forget sanctimonious and inaccurate crap like "only in America..."

I have nothing to say in reply-you made my point for me quite succinctly.
