Horrible - Painfull to Watch
OK, I may have a very slanted view of this movie for 2 reasons; One, I attended a military school for 6 years. The same military school that my father and grandfather attended. And 2) it was at the military school where this film was shot: Kemper Military School & College, Boonville, Missouri. Just as a side note-they wanted to film "Taps" there, but our president at the time, a retired 2 star general and the best president, in my opinion, we ever had, said no, because, in his words, "It portrayed the military school student as a radical." And we could have used the publicity and the money.
Now don't get me wrong, I love a good farce, but this movie wasn't even that. Try Mad's "Up the Academy". "Taps" was great in that it showed that the cadets were willing to fight for their school. We, the Alumni, did the same thing when the verdict to close Kemper came down, we fought as best we could. The funny thing about that movie: when it came out, they took away our armory at the school. Another great movie is "Lords of Discipline."
While it has a lot of stars in it, it is very weak in a lot of areas. For my money, it hurts to watch it as the school is gone. And the main charcter's actions bear nothing like when I was there.
