Where is this movie set?

Where is the setting for this movie supposed to be? Or is it not anywhere specific.

at the beginning of the film, william hurt's character drives into kittridge (or kitteridge) island, which is located in canada.

I believe most of the film was filmed in New Brunswick, Canada. In and around Saint John to be exact.

i'm really interested with the restaurant. what's the name of the place? i really find the dance so wonderful, especially the unusual dance floor.

It is set in a beautiful school called Rothesay Netherwood School, which is located in Rothesay, New Brunswick, right outside of Saint John.

I live in Rothesay! :D great place. The school is a private school for rich kids. Dont know what the restaurant is called though

I believe it's supposed to represent the Baxter School for the Deaf, which is on an island near Portland, Maine, but the location was left vague in the script and the movie was filmed in Canada for cost reasons.
There's a reference made at Sara's mother's place (presumedly Boston) that the schol is 60 miles away, which is about right.

It's set on the coast of Maine. You see the American flag at the school and the license plates say Maine. (Of course it was shot in New Brunswick).

Ok, I always thought they had filmed it in Maine, but New Brunswick is right next door.
