What happened to the original Care Bears?

Im just wondering, did we ever find out what happened to the original Care Bears? This was my favorite movie as a child but I dont remember if it was explained what happened. At the beguinning I remember that the cubbs are hunted by Dark Heart. But what happened to the original Care Bears?

Edit: Or is this a prequell to Care Bears? After seing the beginning of the movie again I think I might have missunderstood when I thought that this was a New generation?

I don't think it's really a sequel or a prequel. They are both just sort of stand alone movies.

It's been a while since I saw it, but in the first one the Care Bears meet the Care Bear Cousins for the first time in the Forest of Feeling. And in this one we see them as cubs growing up together. There's really no logical way to connect them.

Parts of it are a prequel parts a sequel. See, at first they are shown being babies and then Nobleheart and Trueheart split them up to keep them safe from Darkheart. So, it is logical that the first movie could take place during this section. After they are split up but before they are shown reunited.

True that the Forest of Feelings was for the cousins and that Care-a-Lot was more for the bears but that doesn't mean that they were secluded to the point that they didn't even know of their existance. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

I always took it to mean that no one really knows how the Care Bears and Care Bears Cousins first became the Care Bear Family and these are just two completely different ideas as to how these animals came to be.

That's just my take on it. You believe what you think is right. Although, in this particular case I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

This is coming in alittle late but, the producers of the first film had no idea that it would be a hit and this sequel, prequel, whatever was put into production the same time as the Care Bears Family Saturday morning series. The original Care Bears movie is a stand-alone film while Care Bears Movie II is basically the pilot for the television series since it runs from the continuity of this movie more closely.
