What does the EO mean?

If anybody could clarify that would be great.

reply

It means "Black man turned into white woman"

reply

Funny, but really what does it mean?

reply

Electronic Operator? I'm not sure myself.

reply

well, considering his latest legal plight, it could have been an omen for Emir Ower!!!!! Seems the Prince of Bahrain is not happy with the prince of plastic surgery at the moment.

reply

That's kinda mean though especially since his surgeries stem from his Lupus. Would you condemn & make fun of a White cancer patient?

Hmmm, "Eo" was the goddess of twilight or dawn in Greek mythology. Her name in Roman mythology is "Aurora". I believe that has something to do with it.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

reply

The goddess Aurora is "Eos" in Greek, not "Eo."

"Eo" may simply be a rewritten version of the Greek word "Io," which is pronounced as "<EE-oh>"--a word that would be spelled in English as "Eo." My theory here is that the title spelling may have been changed from "Io" to "Eo" because Americans would be pronouncing "Io" as "<EYE-oh>" which would be incorrect.

Alternatively, it could be an acronym for something meaningful. The flaw with this idea is acronyms in English should be written entirely in upper-case letters and the title is not. Sometimes though, people don't capitalize all the letters in acronyms the way the English language requires. (I.e. Although "intel" should be "INTEL" and "comms" should be "COMMS," they are normally not capitalized even though they technically should be.) If "Eo" in "Captain Eo" is an acronym where the capitalization requirement is ignored, that title would still be spelled with a capital "e" because it follows the English rule for capitalization of a title.

Michael said himself in his book "Moonwalk", that the name "Eo" came from the Greek goddess of dawn, or the Greek word for "dawn". Even two thousand years ago, there were different Greek dialects, so while I too have heard the form "Eos", the goddess could very well have been called "Eo" in another dialect. For example, Mother Earth was called both "Gaia" and "Ge", so there were different forms of the names of the gods. And even if the name would be misspelled, it still is the goddess, or the greek word for "dawn", that Captain Eo's name refers too.

That's right, it was form the greek word. =]

"Dreaming of the night he danced with me..."

reply

EO means: the sun

if that is what they mean I don't know...

reply

I have always wondered the same thing...after a while I guess I gave up on trying to figure out an answer and just decided that EO was his name.

reply

Every Orifice

LOL, sorry... couldn't resist that one.

reply

I had a film teacher who always thought it meant "Emulsion Out" for the way that film is run though the camera, with the emulsion part out to the lens so it captures the image.

reply

Old post I know but it's really interesting, what you wrote.

reply

It is logical it means LIGHT, since Captain EO brings light, music and color to the dark, drab world that he visits.

And EO was his name-O!

reply

<<And EO was his name-O!>>

LOL! I love it....

As opposed to loading the film emulsion in with the emulsion away from the lens? In fact, with enough light, it can be done. The resulting image is quite red due to the light absorbent backing material (forgot what it was called).

Assistant Cameras write "emulsion out" on cans depending on the wind of the film. It's been a long time, but some cameras load in reverse.

I asked a cast member at Disney World that was working the attraction when I saw it in July and they said it was Greek for "A new dawn".

reply

Enormous Overdose, what... too soon?

reply

I think it is a shortened version of eon as in an eon.

reply

"Eo" is a short form of "Eos", which was the name of the Greek goddess of dawn. For example, an ancestor to our modern horse is called "eohippos", meaning "dawn horse".

Intelligence and purity.
