Matthew Broderick

Why wasn't Matthew Broderick in this movie since he starred and won a Tony for this play on Broadway? Was he too old for the part at the time they made it?

reply

Maybe he was too busy. Remember, at the time he did the play on Broadway WarGames came out. The year this came out he had Ferris Bueller's Day Off out. Interestingly enough, when this film came out you had Broadway Bound playing on Broadway with Johnathan Silverman playing Eugene! And Broderick did play Eugene in the film version of Biloxi Blues.

Johnathan Silverman even sounds like Mathew Broderick in this movie. I don't remember him ever sounding like him otherwise, but after watching Biloxi Blues last night, and Brighton Beach Memoirs tonight, it's nice/strange hearing the same character's voice being the same from two different actors.

Maybe he was deemed to be to old!

Either that or he was busy on another project.

Its that man again!!

This was on cable today right after Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The first thing I thought was, "oh, they're doing a Matthew Broderick marathon." I completely forgot it was not him in this movie.
