dedication at end

Does anyone know who the John Trent and Sarah Hughes are that were in the ending credits as having the movie dedicated to their memory? Thanks.

Hi.

John Trent was a prominent Canadian Director and one of the original creators of the film. He was also my father.

He was killed prior to filming when his car was struck by an OPP cruiser whose driver was later convicted of criminal negligence resulting in his death. I never had the inclination to get the full particulars and do not know who Sarah Hughes is, however Sara Hughes appears in the movie's credits.

I just saw the film for the first time today and was previously unaware of the dedication.

Thank you,

Allistair A. Trent

Sarah Hughes was a young set painter who was tragically killed one evening when she went for a swim and was struck by a boat coming in to dock.

I lived in Gravenhurst and was hired by the production company to operate my boat in the bay, behind the Segwun to keep boaters from coming into the bay. Those shots that included the Segwun were mainly done from shore and so, when they shot out into the bay, they obviously couldn't have modern-day motor boats in the scene.

If memory serves me, the night Sarah was killed may have been the last day of shooting, adding to the tragedy.

It was a very long, hot day and as the sun began to set and they wrapped for the day, Sarah and a couple others went for a swim.

While I was not present when they went in the water, I was one of the first people to arrive after the accident. People were getting into boats to go search for her and there was a lot going on.

I was a water safety instructor and life guard as well as certified scuba diver. As my my friend, who also worked on the movie with me and a lifeguard, etc., climbed into a boat to assist in the search, Rick, who assisted my scuba instructor in my scuba course, arrived with his girlfriend and all their gear to begina dive search.

When they spotted me they said, "Oh (my name), you're here. Good, you can dive with Rick".

Long story short; Rick and I dove and searched for Sarah for a short time until it was far too dark to continue. We never found her. The area was not that large, but the bottom composition was lousy - trees and crap, so it wasn't safe.

It took a professional group of divers from a CFB Trenton (I believe) many hours to find her a day or two later.

The boat that struck and killed her was driven by the town's veterinarian who was not only paralyzed in one arm because of a childhood ailment, but was also reportedly drinking/drunk at the time of accident. His boat was a massive, twin-engine aluminum hulled beast. It's believed that Sarah was struck by the bow of the boat and killed instantly.

Sadly, Sarah, who had black hair, chose to swim at dusk with a one piece black bathing suit.

Although the vet was charged, I don't believe he was convicted.
