Stories mixed up

Let's see....

We have the grown ups acting like college or high school kids.

We have little Jeffrey Beaumont hiding in the closet watching his dad abuse his mother.

Wonder if this was a regular movie, would it have been Mike instead of Frank beaten up Jeffrey for smooching with his girlfriend?

You also wonder if there is a more realistic detective/drug-bust story hiding out in this dreamy film....

Are you referring to the way Frank and his gang act? That's how adults act. This is actually one of the most realistic movies ever made in this regard.

I get that the dilemma of the film is Jeffrey dealing with his genetic (human, male) predisposition for lustful violence (he threatens to beat up his own aunt for Christ's sake!), and that parallels are drawn between this dark, repressed undercurrent of human nature desperately bubbling up to the surface to be made amends with and his father's illness, the flickering flame, and his vicarious helpless dive into the world of Frankness... but I have never seen any indication that this movie is non-linear. Where are you picking this up from?

No, I've never wondered these things. Mike is a pussy. Also, again, very realistic movie. Other movies are unrealistic, this movie is practically a documentary and I'm pretty sure most of it is found footage.
