The time period this film takes place in is never revealed. It's s mix of the 50s and the 80s. A lynchian decade.

A lynchian decade is a nice way to put it! He often mixes whatever decade we're in with the 50's, and he makes it work!

The cars driving around town were from the late 70's/80's. The movie isn't set in the 50's, but some of the characters seem to be stuck there.
