Bluray?

Not sure what format this was filmed on, but I'm sure it could be given the HD treatment.
Saying that, I remember how long it took to get this on DVD.

I know, it was on Sky at some point in HD.
The film is on youtube in HD but appears to be a bit fuzzy.
Not sure when it will be out on Bluray....

This looks promising!

Finally!!! I just hope it's actual widescreen instead of the usual 4:3. I also hope they include some new extras like a making of doc.

They have shown this film on Film 4 in the UK a couple of times in the last few weeks.

Definitely looks recently remastered, in widescreen (well 16:9 anyway) and in high definition. It really looks great....the master film evidently is in excellent condition. Hopefully a Blu-ray release is imminent.

Bluray release confirmed!....15th June 2015.

Now available to pre-order on Amazon UK. "Remastered and restored in stunning HD by Deluxe Post Production and available in its original screen ration of 1.85:1 for the first time"

Good news!

It would be nice if they added some extras or at least ported over the extras from the original DVD release.

Have asked Odeon about this new blu-ray release. It's basically what you see is what you get. The film is in HD but still in Stereo sound (so the lyrics of Jon Anderson's title song are still inaudible) and no extras apart from the trailer. I'm a bit disappointed, I mean they'd still have room to port over the extras from the 2003 DVD so not sure why they couldn't do this.

Also watch the trailer for the film's blu-ray release:

Is it just me or does it look a bit NTSC?

reply

Curiously it does look a bit NTSC, but remember in today's world of bluray and digital tv the PAL/NTSC thing is largely defunct. All Blurays are 1080p which ever side of the pond you are on, the only slight difference sometimes being the framerate (25fps vs 30fps).

Very disappointing they could not have at least added the extras from the 2003 release. On the plus side, watching that trailer really shows what good condition the original film print is in.....it looks like it was filmed yesterday. They certainly know how to store film properly.

This film was on Film 4 HD today.
Never seen it before but the HD quality made the film look a bit more dated though the picture was very sharp and sound was stereo.

Glad I wasn't the only person to notice the slightly weird picture. Kind of looks like it was recorded from American TV. Also it definitely is disappointing no extras. I mean Prism Leisure/Metrodome made some effort when they released the film originally. That material at least exists so not sure why it couldn't be included. Not due to lack of space. On a side note they didn't confirm whether it was totally uncut so will have to see on the day the disc arrives.

I have a recording of the film when it was shown on Film 4 HD recently. It certainly doesn't look NTSC, and it was definitely the remaster (widescreen HD etc).

So hopefully the trailer is just been hastily put together with no regard for quality.

I'd like to think it will be released uncut. The BBFC website doesn't list the latest release, but the 2003 release had an 88 minute runtime, and from memory that wasn't cut. So the clue might be in the runtime, although I notice the published runtime of the Bluray is 95 mins....even longer than the original cinema release (92 mins). I'm not sure how they came up with 95 mins.....maybe an error.

I agree it was probably just the quality of the trailer. Got the blu-ray a couple of days ago and the picture looks fine from the clips I've seen. Not fantastic but absolutely fine. It's as good as we're going to get at this point although it still bugs me they didn't include some actual extras. The stereo sound still means that it's difficult to interpret Jon Anderson's title song lyrics.

needs a USA release on blu ray....$35 is a bit steep for a copy knowing it just came out 6 months ago
