Who saw this at the cinema?

i saw it in Chelmsford, Essex in 1986 with my dad. My most vivid memory of seeing it there is of the woman in front laughing at the lines "What did they train you in?" "Cooking!"

I saw it in Chatham 1986 on a sat night and there were only 5 of us in the whole cinema!Shame really as it remains good fun.

I'm from the isle of man.. how strange...I used to love the Biggles books, never seen this film so just clicked on to the forum to see what people were saying. not many people come here on holiday anymore!

Saw it at Butlins Pwllheli, as I recall the cinemas were free for guests, which made for a packed cinema and a good atmosphere.

Thoroughly enjoyed it as a kid, the shots of the planes from the cameras mounted onboard are just as breathtaking now as they were then, all the more so because they were real and not CGI.

I went to a Butlins around that time summer 87 or 88 (maybe both) and yes remember the free packed out cinema(even had the proper movie posters outside for whichever movies were on) pretty sure i saw Bigfoot and the Hendersons, Golden Child, Legal Eagles, Jaws4, Star Trek IV (had saw it a couple times already), and A View to a Kill (even though that was a couple of years old .. I think they were supposed to be showing Living Daylights..but I hadn't seen AVTAK since it came out so was better to watch that again over the recent one I'd just seen) might've seen others but can't remember as its so very long ago now.. another era..another time

I saw it at the Odeon in Torquay south Devon, quite sad to think really, even though we are a fairly small town we had three cinema's back then, now we've only got one thats barely surviving (:o(
Anyway great movie, got the dvd.

My brother and I saw this when it was released at the cinema in 1986. I was 10 and he was 8. We most probably saw it in Daventry Northamptonshire though there is no cinema there now.

I only came to this board because I am watching it again right now on Movies4Men. First time I have watched this movie since the cinema 23 years ago and I remember it being a lot better back then! :)

I saw it three times at Fairworld in Washington Tyne and Wear- I haven't seen it since the late 80s and am considering getting it for my son!

reply

Get it :) It's a good film for all ages - I showed it to my parents several months ago, and they like it.

I saw it in a small two screen cinema in my home town in Scotland when I was about 12. Loved it. I don't really remember if the cinema was packed, but it usually was back then due to lack of multiplexes in surrounding areas. The good old days.

I saw this at Gerrads Cross in Screen 2 when I was 13 years old. Don't remember how many people where there but I was a big Biggles fan afterwards.

I just watched it this evening again and I still really enjoy it. Wish a proper release on Blu Ray with proper aspect ratio was on the cards but I doubt we'll see that anytime soon.

Romford Odeon with my Dad. Couldn't wait for the VHS, had to make do with watching the same clip from film 86 (?) over and over again.

Yes - I saw "Biggles" in the cinema :) Odeon, Leicester Square. I would've been 16 or 17 at the time. I'm not a Londoner - I was with my family visiting cousins who lived near London and we went to see it at the Odeon. We also saw "Little Shop of Horrors" - released the same year, 1986 - although I can't recall now whether both films were showing at the same time and we saw both the same day, or whether LSOH was a separate occasion. I do remember it was the first time I heard surround sound in the cinema, though (LSOH, not Biggles)

Had a soft-spot for "Biggles" ever since. Sure, it's a flawed film, and I'm fully aware of that, but nevertheless I really loved stuff like the concept of the sound weapon, the image of a modern (for 1986!) helicopter appearing over the trenches in World War 1, and that barking-mad soundtrack.

On tv I'm afraid. It was never shown in the picture theater in my town :(

If you lived in the US you would have to have waited until 1988 to see the film.

Oh dear.
