Do you think Thunder was trying to commit suicide or take them with him?

At the end of the movie, when Thunder expands to an explosion, do you think he was doing this because all hope was lost and he was committing suicide, or do you think he was trying to take the heroes out with him?

I think he was full of rage seeing his boss dead and started getting bigger (like he did when Jack was on his back in the cell) but he over did it and exploded.

With him getting bigger and stronger when he got angry, I thought he was so full of rage, he couldn't handle it and blew.
