The Test of Times

Every now and then a movie comes out with great performers in it and it's preceeded by lots of hype. It usually sucks at the box office, then gets bashed by the cheetoh eating fat boys that review movies.

These movies have a way of being someone's favorite movie (they "get it") and they have to pick it out of the 5 dollar bin at walmart. Soon, all of your buddies have this as part of their collection. The 1st such modern day classic to recieve the "It's so bad it's great" moniker was "Roadhouse". It was; from a playwrite's pov, an aweful demonstration of testosterone.

But if you're ever at a dead party, put on Roadhouse and notice how many guys know the whole script by heart.

I think movies that are full of great one liners will keep those stinkers alive.

I know people today that steal Kurt Russell's line (from The best of times)about Beiruit every chance they get "Beiruit; He da best damn ball playa day evuh wuz".

Or when Jack is urinating and the whole house can hear it and Kurt Russell says:"So how about that acid rain"?

These are the type of classic one liners that made Caddy shack a classic.

And for those who "Got it" ; The only other movie that comes close to this one is "Mr.Destiny". One movie is about redemption (The Best of Times) the latter about Fate (Mr.Destiny)

The eighties are rich with stinkers that will be "classics" by 2010. "My Science Project and Wierd Science" will find their place amongst the greatest of the stinkers.

Remember, the 80's brought us the VCR. So for the many movies that we had to pay real close attention to, we could now rewind and watch over and over again.

Sure, "The Best of Times" is cheesy. But sometimes you can make a quesadilla out of it. Just add Jalapenos and Salsa.
