One thing that doesn't make sense does anyone agree?

Brad Jr. didn't rat his father out until his father raped his gf. Why did his father do that? It was like the father's own fault that his son ratted him out. What was Walken looking to accomplish? Anyone agree?

He wanted her to stay away from Brad Jr. Brad Sr. thought she might influence Brad Jr. to cooperate with the police so he'd get out of jail and they could be off together. Big Brad keeps warning her to stay away from his son at the motel. After she repeatedly refuses, he rapes her. I guess he thought if he raped her, she might be too upset or disgraced to see Brad Jr. again. Of course it backfired but that's the only thing I can think of why he did it.

He didn't rat because of the rape, he was leaving town at that point. He ratted because of the hit.

Actually he does start to give up some information after the rape. After Terry visits him in jail and tells him about the rape, they show Brad Jr. in his cell with some cops and he asks them if they've ever heard of Lester. Then he's out of jail and in the car with Terry, his mother and Grandmother and tells them he intends to leave. Before that, he was the only one of the kids who didn't get bail. I would assume he started to tell the police about Lester in exchange for getting bail or being released. However, instead of staying around and ratting, he tries to get away and disappear with Terry but they're gunned down before they can leave. Eventually he testifies against his Dad after the murder but he had to have told the police something based on the scene in his cell and his release. Whether or not he told them everything, it's open to interpretation because it's never shown but he clearly brings up Lester's name before they're shot.

It's because Brad Sr. is a degenerate...and degenerates often are at the mercy of their whims...he was drinking, Terri was cute and he was angry with her....so...

The validity of my answers is highly dependent on the intelligence of the question..or lack thereof.
