Marple: Bertam's Hotel

I notice that Francesca Annis was initially cast as Lady Selina Hazy. Joan Greenwood is now in that role.
What happened to Francesca?

Well if you look closely, Francesca Annis is in the 2007 version with Geraldine McEwan, while Joan Greenwood was in the 1987 version with Joan Hickson, and as Joan Greenwood has been dead for twenty years, it isn't possible for her to be in the new one.
I personally think it is quite insulting to Joan Hickson to remake any of the miss marple stories. They cannot be improved, and from what I have seen, I am sure Agatha Christie would feel the same.

to "denruthgar"....Yes! I completely agree with your last paragraph. As the saying goes here in the USA: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I cannot see for a minute how the Miss Marple series featuring Joan Hickson could have been bettered. To me, she WAS Miss Marple. And the stories were so beautifully adapted to TV. I'm not even going to waste my time listing my complaints about the "new" Miss Marple series featuring Geraldine McEwan.....I'll just say UGH! and let it go.

At first I lkied the new series, but it was before I saw the new ones. These newer ones seem more liked comedies to me. What are theythinking?

UGH is right, my sentiments exactly. too much to say or rather complain abt those new ones and not enough space.

I think it's right that they should have left Miss Marple's 12 main stories after Joan Hickson had done them. Perhaps there could have been some tinkering about with the shorter stories involving Miss Marple only, after Joan Hickson.

reply

I agree. For me, Joan Hickson is Miss Marple. I can't imagine how anyone could think they could improve on these beautiful adaptions.

reply

i think you are just mixing up the adaptations.
