reply

Yeah, but it had Ken Olandt in his underwear. That surely raises the rating somewhat.

I have no taste, but that just means there's less of a chance that I'll get eaten

I liked the ending. If this 'Buffy' character was the killer, and her and Kit fought to the death, how would this slasher have stood out from most others?

i love the ending, a stroke of genius as i said before! the dvd is on the way to me, havent seen it since like 1986, when i was 11, it certainly stuck in the mind one of the 80s greats!!!!!

reply

I liked the ending too, I thought it was good.

The reason people don't like the ending is because they want the same old slasher crap over and over, with a different name for the killer. When they get something that defies convention, they don't like it. "Boo-hoo! The murders weren't real!"

I liked the movie when I rented it. I thought it was great to watch! I missed it when USA UP ALL NIGHT aired this movie.

I saw the ending coming. But that only because i have seen M. Night films and Saw movies. Plus Cry Wolf. But i believe that back in 86 most movies didn't end like this.

You Can't Spell Success without U.

reply

Yeah that is so very true about what you are saying and it was very uniquely done the ending of this movie.

One of my fav. horror movies of all time!!!!! My older sister rented it in 1986 when I was 8 or 9 and I never forgot this movie. The first "death" was the best, when that kid got crushed in the water. The ending was amazing!! Funny how the kids of the new generation can't appreciate that. All they say is: "this is gay. this sucks. this is dumb".

reply

I know what you mean man! My first time watching this movie I was at Blockbuster and decided to pick it up to watch since I have never seen it before. I loved the movie and thought it was great!

I like the ending. It's a slasher movie that has a happy ending! what's so wrong with that?

reply

There is really nothing wrong with a happy ending in a good slasher movie. I thought it was great to watch!

reply

Exactly! Usually in a typical slasher movie, the "happy ending" is the killer dead, and one or two main characters surviving, nevermind the fact that all their friends are dead. LOL

But in this one, hey, nobody dies! And I love how the last shot is of a character smiling and genuinely meaning it. Even going so far as to "break the fourth wall" and look directly at the audience.

And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

Many of my friends here have never heard of this movie nor seen it. I was so happy to buy a brand new copy at the store here. I have made everyone watch it and I merely say tis 80's, but I say nothing and do not even look at the until after Kit runs into the room. Then I bust out laughing as my friends' faces are like "wtf" They don't hate it but they never saw it coming. My friend was so suckered and she LOVES horror movies she had to buy a copy as well.

hehehe I have corrupted.

reply

never saw it coming too. i liked the Cast, some interesting characters there.

I don't like the ending because it's incredibly predictable and unrealistic.

Overall I think it depends, I personally thought I was going to hate the ending and the whole entire film just because it got spoiled for me before I got the chance to see it. I actually ended up loving the film just because it's so different compared to all the other 80s slashers of that era and I thought the characters were really fun too. If all the characters were bad and unlikeable then I probley would of not liked the film at all, they were really what held up the film I thought.

reply

I hate this whole movie.

Clark's destiny = Superman, Lex Luthor & Lois Lane.

reply

April Fool's Day is like a parody of all the holiday slashers that still takes itself serious. It really works, and the end works much better than it should.

reply

I hated the ending too. It ruined the movie for me. It was a classic slasher film right up until the end - which makes the movie NOT a slasher film :/

I watched it for the first time on April Fool's Day last year. (And the second time on April Fool's Day this year.)

Maybe because I didn't watch it at the time, but I guessed the ending just by reading the plot summary on the back of the DVD cover. As said earlier I thought; "Wouldn't it be funny if the whole thing is an April Fool's Day gag?" Turned out it was.

I don't mind that this was how it ended. But it seems odd that people are acting like it was some massive shock ending. I guessed it without watching a second of the movie, and I never see twist endings coming.

It may be because these days though, twists at the end of films are more common. Maybe if I'd have watched it in 1986, I'd have been more surprised.
