There's a seller on ebay who had a DVD of it listed(I just won it)... The seller is located in Canada and probably will be listing more copies.

Edit: Do not buy from the seller "z-a-x" on ebay! He took over a month to send me the DVD and it was defective. He said he would send a replacement and never did. By that time it was too late to dispute the charge through paypal. He has another copy listed right now; so I want to warn anyone looking for it to avoid him at all costs.

I got an ex-rental VHS copy for 50p wooo! Film is teriffic fun.

I remember how excited I was when this first aired. It wasn't just a TV movie, it was a pilot, and I couldn't wait for the full series to begin. Sadly, it never got picked up. I think this was the event that opened my eyes to how the networks do things, and how quality didn't matter, just how much cash they thought something could rake in. Not much else on TV at the time was really worth watching, and they were wide-open for some new, instense shows to capture the imagination. This show easily could have been the "Lost" of the '80s, had it been given a chance to slowly reveal pieces of the mystery over time. A little Lost, a bit of Nowhere Man, a hint of The Invaders... absolutely cool as hell, and years ahead of its time as far as long-term story plotting goes (which was very likely the problem, since the majority of viewers didn't have the attention span or patience to deal with something that didn't hand them the entire story and answer in one, quick sitting).

This was back in the days when TV shows would get a pilot, which would be aired for public reaction, and then they'd decide whether to go for a full series order. Unlike today, where "they" decide what gets to be a series, and if the public doesn't warm to it quickly, the plug gets pulled, leaving those of us that liked it hanging without a resolution. Not every innovation is good.

In all fairness, it's true that this time-period also kept us from being able to have big-budget effects in a television show, so there were moments that came across a little cheesy, especially the scene where the android is chasing him and beating him senseless with her own dismembered arm (see the YouTube clip posted above for a bit of that segment). Nowadays directors have learned to use better camera angles to hide the fact the actor's got an appendage strapped-down and hidden, and film can easily be touched-up to help. Twenty years ago that wasn't so easy, so is easily forgiven. :)

I wonder if this story could be resurrected for a new, modern series, or at the very least, if the writers ever did reveal the true mystery of what was happening and why. Hey, it took decades, but Coronet Blue, a rare example of this sory of storytelling from the late '60s, eventually revealed the "secret" once the internet was available to release the info on, so it could happen here, too (although I'd rather see it revived, not revealed).

I am curious about one thing, though. Does anyone else actually remember watching this when it first aired? It says it aired in 1986 on the main IMDB page, but I could have sworn it was 1983. Can any of you lucky few that have gotten ahold of a copy please confirm the visible copyright (in the credits, not on the box cover)?

Well I think what happened was that it not only didn't get good ratings but NBC (the station that originally aired it) were expecting something on par with "V" when they looked at the ratings. The track record for scifi was rather poor in those days on TV, and NBC wouldn't have another successful scifi movie on TV until "Something Is Out There" aired. Then of course they killed that when it went to series too.

Sure, anything is possible. Roderick Taylor is a great writer, I am sure he could come up with a suitable premise.

I remember the night it aired vividly. I hadn't seen but one ad for it in the days that led up to its airing. The night it aired there was a spring thunderstorm that kept threatening to blackout my neighborhood. The TV managed to stay on and I an my mom sat spellbound at what we were watching. I was in 10th grade at the time so I got to stay up and watch the whole thing and next day it was the talk of all my friends at school. It was great, but I think "V" carried more excitement. It aired in 1986 to my recollection and one of the things I loved about it is the similarity of some of the music to the soundtrack in the animated series "Centurions". I wonder what compelled Udi Harpaz to create similar soundscapes.

Is this the one where, early on, someone mentions that the hero grew up all over the world (England, South Africa, etc.) and was a high-school track star? Because if it is, I saw it when it was first on TV. I too remember it as coming out more in '83 or so, right after The Terminator which seemed to have inspired it.

Wasn't there a commercial plane that went missing, and then when it landed everyone on board acted unaware of any problem, and later it was revealed that they had all been replaced by androids? And I believe the film opened with a long car chase, then flashed back to the story...

Wow, I don't know why I remember all this. It occurred to me last night as I was falling asleep, probably for the first time since the start of the internet, so I could finally hunt it down (I checked the "referenced in" section under the listing for The Terminator).

(EDIT: Just read the comments and I see that the plane angle is mentioned there, so this is indeed the one I remember.)

1986 on NBC. I would also like to get this
movie on DVD. Though it's not perfect by any
means,it was still interesting. I was in 5th

"z-a-x" is a notorious scammer on eBay. Why he has not been 'evicted' from the site is beyond me. The only thing I can figure is that as long as he pays his fees on time and eBay gets their cut of his sales, they don't really care how much scamming and piracy goes on there.
