A synopsis? A dwarf-like hissing mother who lives in an ornate Victorian house uses hypnotic spirals to send her four-eyed dweeb of a slob son out into the city to collect eyeballs for her collection. But that is only the first part of the story and I will not spoil it for you.

It is brilliant and amazing and if I could form a cult around this film I would certainly do so.

When I die, I want those hypnotic scenes played at my funeral.

Well . it´s already a cult film .
Bigas Luna , the director is a true original and he make the screenplay too.

i saw this film when i was a kid in the 80s, and its just plain original. unlike most of the garbage hollywood is churning up these days. and its available at amazon. i think i might get this hidden gem of a movie starring the tangina woman from the poltergeist movies. a must see.

This movie could best be described as "postmodern," though it was made in an era long before that became a buzzword. Although I have to say I was a bit disappointed that we didn't see the Zelda Rubinstein/Michael Lerner film to its conclusion, I must hand it to the director for originality. If Bigas Luna ever does a "director's cut," perhaps her could add another layer to the film about people watching this movie on VHS/DVD being terrorized by home intruders.

i think this movie is unique, well acted, very well written and directed, very original and is a true cult movie, and not many people know this movie exists, which is ashame.

It's unfortunate that a movie called "Demons," a decent little film about monsters killing off patrons of a movie theater, gets more attention on this theme than this film, which is even better.

reply

luv this film, its very trippy

reply

I concur. The premise was very fresh and original. Moreover, Zelda Rubinstein was marvelously creepy as the evil and domineering mother and Michael Lerner was likewise excellent as her geeky mama's boy son.

1,000 mini-bios and I feel like I'm just getting started

reply

what was so fresh about it?

I thought it had some good elements - Zelda Rubinstein's character and acting was great, but I thought most of the acting was terrible and the movie lacked suspense.

reply

Yep, it definitely reminded me of "Demons" at times. A good mix of "Psycho" and "Un Chien Andalou" as well. Very nicely done!

reply

Yes, it was very bizarre, surreal and otherworldly but good. I imagine if this movie was released today there would be cries about how it brought back memories of the Aurora, Colorado incident so it's very lucky it was before it's time. Zelda Rubinstein was great as usual.

reply

I had no idea this is going to be a film-within-film type of movie. So, when the camera first backed out of the "film" into a movie theater, it was a nice surprise for me.

I am surprised that some young Hollywood punk-ass has not ripped off this idea !
