Aliens (1986)
Aliens follows the story of Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, who is sent to a planet to make contact with a terraforming colony and has to fight them to survive. A spokesperson from Sky said the film contains the disclaimer because it features a non-Hispanic actress playing the role of an Hispanic character.

The film has been accused of 'hi-tech racism and android apartheid' due to the way in which humans in the film deal with the presence of 'other'. It has been suggested the character of Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, treated them with fear and suspicion.

GOOD...THE FARTHER WE GO DOWN THIS RIDICULOUS ROAD,THE SOONER EVERYONE WILL REALIZE WE DONT KNOW WHERE WERE GOING...THEN WE CAN TURN AROUND AND GO HOME.

reply

I SINCERELY WISH IT GOES THE WAY YOU SAY AND PEOPLE COME TO THEIR SENSES.
FROM WHERE I STAND, IT LOOKS LIKE THE FARTHER WE GO DOWN THIS ROAD, THE SOONER SOME OF US WILL BE SENT TO REEDUCATION CAMPS.

reply

LOL. Hi tech racism? He's an android, and nothing more. The synthetics were technology and Ripley had experience with them that had taught her they could be dangerous. Ash or Bishop didn't symbolize a real world minority or "other" or some nonsense like that.

reply

In the original "Alien" a black guy, Parker, gave the white-looking android shit, far more than any other crew member, for no discernible reason other than he irritated him (note their interaction in the mess hall right after they first woke up). And this was before he became aware that the cold, creepy white scientist dude was an android. At least Ripley had a good reason for harassing him.

reply

What a total tool. The writer of that not realise an android tried to murder Ripley in the first film, by the companies programming. Of course she was suspicious of Bishop at first.

This person would have a fit if they saw Bladerunner or Star Wars.

Man hunts minorities. Chases after a 3 year old with a gun.

Systematic racism on droids.

Don't forget the marines making fun of the Arcturians' gender-fluid identity during the lunch scene... "Can't do that." (as another character from another James Cameron film says...)

reply

I don't recall any mention of Arcturians' gender-fluid identity.

>I sure wouldn't mind more of that Arcturian poomtang, 'member that?
>Yeah, but the one you had was a male.
>It doesn't matter when it's Arcturian, baby.

It mentions nothing about gender-fluid. It also doesn't make fun of Arcturians, in general.

If anything it was a homo reference about Frost, who responded perfectly.

How exactly does the idiot writer think casting Goldstein as Vasquez was a problem? I went to school with a Jewish guy who's entire family came from Cuba. Clearly there were and are Jews that are Hispanic since being Hispanic isn't a race it is simply a culture not a race. I've also known fair skinned and blue eyed Mexicans that were born and raised in Mexico - not going to get more Hispanic than that. Or is the idiot yapping about he accent, well if that's the problem he has he need to be slamming most of the fucking actors and actresses from the UK because I don't think I can think of any that haven't at one time or another tried to pass themselves off as Americans in a movie so surely it isn't the accent he has a problem with.

When he gets to android apartheid he just looks like a complete fucking idiot. Machines aren't living creatures.

reply

I must concede... this is starting to be funny. It's like living in a spoof movie 😄

reply

fun (but slightly concerning) times..

reply

I'm more worried about upcoming movie and tv productions.

This reads like a Futurama bit.

Except it's real, and in my opinion people who laugh it off should be taking it more seriously. The real agenda has nothing to do with "cultural sensitivity" or all that other bullshit sloganeering. From the corporate point of view it's just covering their asses legally and giving the superficial appearance of being modern and woke. The morons driving it have something else in mind. I say "morons" in that they're not educated in the things they complain about, but they are smart in the ways of rhetoric and propaganda.

reply

Exactly, this is becoming the modern day equivalent of Nazis burning books they disapproved of. Everybody needs to wake up.

reply

I think it's pretty clear that this is an extreme and ridiculous viewpoint. This isn't at all a shared viewpoint by a large number. I have no idea what Sky even is, but it is obviously not something to be taken seriously by anyone.

reply

Always predictable that the right-wing needs to argue against information.

reply

I've been thinking about this all night and I just can't figure out what it has to do with me or what I said.

reply

Well, excuse me if that was not a rant against a straw version of political correctness.
