This movie would be ridiculed if it came out today.

We currently live in the age of overthinking any movie staring a woman or minority into some SJW liberal PC propaganda piece. Aliens is about a masculine butch woman who starts bossing around highly trained military marines and saves the day as the other actually trained soldiers are killed. She’s always right, always succeeds the impossible, takes zero shit, and kicks any dude’s ass. Also, she’s a civilian space trucker with zero combat experience but shoots better and outdoes the highly trained marines in every regard.

Face it. This movie would be labeled as SJW pandering liberal garbage if it were released today in 2019. But is it? No, of course not, just as Get Out and Terminator: Dark Fate aren’t. Okay, so a movie doesn’t star a white male. Who cares? It’s just a damn movie.

reply

Dark Fate is garbage as its trying to rewrite history from the first two terminator movies. In regards to Aliens the only thing that might be criticized today is Janette Goldstein playing Vasquez.

reply

Nah Vasquez was badass. I like the way she played Hudson Jokes too.

reply

Well I mentioned her as she's white and playing a latin character.

reply

well , you nailed it!
They just put a "warning" on the movie for that reason :(

reply

The only thing that will be criticized negatively today (look up “criticize”) is EVERYTHING, because taking a dump makes people feel superior. Remember, Mommy cooed over you as she changed your dy-dees. “Oh, what a good baby. You took a shit. Mommie wuv you.”

reply

Omg man, if a movie has even a hint of female empowerment, has an unlikable male character, even so much as touches on an issue, or even implies a correlation, that movie gets ripped to shreds, people lose their goddamn minds falling all over each other to be the first one to point their finger.

Holy crap, could you even imagine? Yeah you're absolutely right...these filmmakers would rue the damn day they thought of making Ripley the hero...oh boy, review bombs, hate mail, death threats...the man-children would be out in force, this movie is everything they despise and then some.

reply

That's just not true.

reply

Haha what a tantrum post - everything op wrote is completely incorrect, but they know that.

This is just rage trying to generate a false equivalence to today when REALITY is Aliens is a classic and NONE of the characters or actors needs special treatment of privilege.

Get back in your box clown.

reply

For the dumb shits amongst us , could you give a rewrite of that post in simpler words?
I have no idea what you mean.

reply

I get this point but if you take it in the context of it being a sequel to the original, whereby Ripley is realistically portrayed as being smart enough to outlast her co-workers and survive the alien, and therefore carries that into this film having more wits and intel on these things than the marines do, then I think it would hold up better to this SJW scrutiny than it would if this was a first film without that context.

It probably would still receive some of that scrutiny anyway because it's hard to ignore these days, but the writing of her character and the set up from the first film helps mould her into someone who can hold their own in this way among these soldiers.

Neah, Weaver doesn't overpower the monster by sheer force. She is basically lucky to get a win.

But Star Wars: A new hope would be ridiculed for sure :D

reply

>But Star Wars: A new hope would be ridiculed for sure :D

Why would it be ridiculed? I think you are looking in the wrong place here. Night of the Living Dead yes because of the depiction of Barbara, but Star Wars.........definitely no.

A gang kills a young boys foster parents, then the gang leader kills an old man who helped the young boy. The young kid meets a bunch of people and the strongest of all of those in will and morals is a woman. The young girl is already a warrior fighting the gang. She is captured by said gang, but never talks even when threatened with millions dying and watches her home planet explode, making a massive decision for the greater good. She is drugged, maybe tortured and still doesn't talk. Then she is a major part in orchestrating the final battle.

Ridiculed my ass, Princess Leia is one of the best characters of all time, we still don't get female characters like this. Han Solo was a money grubbing coward until the end then all of a suddenly his stats gain the humility perk +1.

Leia was stood on the planet waiting for it to explode any second. All for the cause.

Most female characters today are given the ultimate power without work, tons of male characters have also, there aren't many popular male characters that have not suffered adversity. Even Superman has suffered adversity, he wasn't just handed it and let go to be a god, Supes had problems. Leia didn't have a super power from birth or was handed it to her, but worked so hard and achieved it through brute force and pure will power. Luke went through adversity to achieve a slither of power and by the end of Star Wars he was guided to harness by another which won the movie. Lukes achievements didn't happen without the help of others.

Have you tried to watch A New Hope now? I have.

And as much as i loved it as a child i can see his multiple flaws. A New Hope is basically a fairy tale in space.

And a very cheesy one.

The things you are talking about are true, but that's not why it would be ridiculed ... the child in me would probably still like it.

reply

So your point relating to the OP is?

reply

I just reject your hypothesis.

reply

The problem with "SJW liberal PC propaganda" is not women or minorities but bad writing, shallow 1-dimensional characters and terrible stories.
That's not the case with the first 3 Alien movies or the first two Terminators. Or, for that matter, many other movies.
They are good films. Most of what we get served nowadays is shit. Shit + "SJW pandering liberal garbage".

reply

So why is it then that all the outrage about co-called woke / sjw is directed at films that have allowed women and minorites to have a role , and not just the films with "bad writing" ?

reply

Regular bad movies are easily dismissed.
And outrage is almost always caused by politicized media drones defending "socially relevant" bad movies.
OK, sure - nowadays it's often preemptive but that's because people have learned to determine from a trailer... No, scratch this they have learned to determine from an announcement of a movie if it's gonna be about story and characters or about ticking off boxes of an agenda.

reply

Funny how you claim people over-think movies today when it is only you who does so.

I am very much against the current stream of SJW nonsense, but Aliens is my go to response whenever I am accused of "being insecure about strong women in movies" by SJW cunts who have no arguments and cannot cope with reality so they have to make up shit about you to convince at least themselves they are right.

Anyways, go fuck yourself and your bullshit.

reply

Are yo talking to the OP?
Did you read the post?
I think he's on your side of the argumant.

reply

Yes I am talking to the OP, which is why I refer to him in my first sentence.
Yes I did read the post - hence my answer.
No, he very clearly is not on my side of the argument.

Not only does he paint a completely wrong/simplified picture of Ripley to support his fantasy-argument, he also makes very clear what side of the argument he is on in his last paragraph. The fact alone that he pretends Dark Fate is not a modern SJW propaganda piece is flat out hilarious.

reply

You're right , mustve been distracted on my first reads.
you: Dark Fate is a modern SJW propaganda piece
him: Dark Fate is Not a modern SJW propaganda piece
got it.

So whats the difference?
Old , grizzled , hard as nails Sarah Connor , with her lifetime on-the-run picking up all kinds of guerilla warfare skills, whilst fighting indestructable killing machines (ok they both do that bit )
...could easily kick Ripley's ass.
