Why is Hudson a fan-favorite?

He's an insufferable douchebag! And Bill Paxton (RIP)'s performance is so over the top it belongs to an 80s B-movie

reply

He is a pretty bad soldier, but he went out fighting.

He's also pretty funny. I think fans relate to him because his character represents what we all fear we might be like in a situation such as that.

When I was in the Marines, I knew plenty of Hudsons. Wise cracking shitbirds who are just counting their time because they were conned into signing a contract by some unscrupulous recruiter.

USMC - U Signed the Motherfucking Contract

They were always good for entertainment value.

If Cameron had any sense of humour, he would have let Hudson survive after all his whining and complaining...

idk

my favorite was Vasquez

I'm not into Fandom or ComicCon level adoration over movies, but I think the reason Hudson is so memorable is that his lines from the movie had become memes before the Internet made us think memes started with it.

Quotes like "Game Over, man" became part of the cultural vernacular when I was growing up in the 80s just as much as Schwarzanegger's quotes from The Terminator.

Because he is an interesting character that has a remarkable arc for a side character and goes out heroically overcoming his douche-ness and fear at the end.

He was over the top a-hole and arrogant at first but this was a cover for his cowardice that you see as soon as shit gets real. He is then completely broke down and terrified; and on the verge of a nervous break down but manages to overcome this and do what was needed. Then he when he stopped thinking about how afraid he was, he steps up like a bad ass and goes out fighting like one.

Because despite his fears and insecurities, he goes out like a warrior.
