What does Vasquez say to Hudson?

When they're in the complex looking down that huge hole (burnt by acid/bashed through by aliens)- Hudson spits down the hole and Vasquez shoves him.

Then Gorman says he is coming in, Hudson says "I feel safer already"

Vasquez then mumbles something like "Gimme a dick and I'll jerk off!"

Did I hear her right?

Lmao!! No! You're close though :) She says "Pendejo jerk off..." Pendejo is spanish slang for "stupid" :)

reply

pendejo jerkoff. She's calling gorman a "Stupid(Spanish)" jerk off. Pendejo is a stronger word and is very aggressive then stupid so its more like saying "dumb fuck, jerk off"

Now that's the thing, I thought Vasquez was insulting Hudson for what he said. If I were him, I would think that and get upset. But then these marines are made of sterner stuff.

reply

I always thought she was referring to Gorman. He had zero experience and Nobody looked up to him.

I've always thought the cliché of "the officer is a coward and incompetent" in Aliens was rather tired. Perhaps because I was an Army ROTC officer cadet when the movie came out cemented this, but by the time Vasquez said what she said, Gorman was "just" inexperienced and arrogant. His cowardice and incompetence came out later. He did defend himself and other later near the end. Some threads have suggested Gorman was deliberately sent because of his inexperience so he could be manipulated by W-Y.

Never occurred to me before but it makes perfect sense. The company has always wanted to collect, weaponize and commercialize the xenomorphs. If the Nostromo crew was considered expendable, no reason the marines wouldn't also be considered expendable in light of the greater opportunity offered by an entire infested colony.

They probably use that cliché too often, but it stems from the fact that a fresh 2nd Lieutenant outranks an NCO with years of experience, so there is often a disparity between rank and actual competence. For this reason, the enlisted ranks tend to harbor a bit of animosity toward junior officers (if not officers in general). In fact, I recall an Army cadence that shares this sentiment: "'What do we do now?' said the Looie. 'File from the left, column left,' said the sergeant." Of course, this trope isn't common with Captains, Majors, etc., when they're given the benefit of the doubt of having significant command experience.

LOL.

Pendejo Jerk-off is what she says, and she is referring to Lt. Gorman.
