So Ripley was responsible for the marines dying?

She was the one who suggested to Gorman that he take away their weapons. If she hadn't of said anything more marines might have survived.

reply

Umm, Gorman's troops were just about to fire off explosive weapons INSIDE A FRICKIN' FUSION REACTOR. BOOM!

reply

If she hadn't have said anything, the fire power the marines were using would have resulted in an explosion and wiped them all out.

Weyland, Burke in particular, was the one responsible for the death of the marines. He sought out Gorman to over see the mission, knowing that he was incompetent and lacked experience. Burke was banking on Gorman panicing and putting their lives in danger. That way he had more of a chance of getting specimens back to Weyland.

reply

interesting , you think he had planned to wipe them all out all along?
I always assumed he turned to that plan after Ripley swore to nail his balls to the wall when they got home.

reply

Yeah I think he was counting on Ripley to help him out at the mention of money, but it back fired big time. He would have gotten extremely worried that his plan would be foiled when Ripley spoke to the marines about his treason that he had to act fast and shut her up before she could say anything, which is when he must have thought of the face hugger plan. If the marines hadn't have intervened and saved both her and newt, Burke would have killed two birds with one stone. He would have silenced Ripley and had her impregnated her with an embro, then once on the Sulaco, as Ripley told the marines, he would have tampered with their cryotubes and sent them off into space.

Please come back and explain how you think they might have survived.

reply

No she just made the LT more situationally aware.

Burke told Gorman that stray fire would blow them all to kingdom come (the drop ship crash eventually ensured that outcome).

Gorman made the decision.

The marines who died did not die because they were unarmed anyway.

reply

She took away the guns because the area they were in would set off an explosion by gunfire. A few soldiers did keep their guns and fire anyway, but I feel they were lucky because Gorman said" who's firing in there?" and no explosion went off.

reply

Ripleys suggestiuon had no effect. There was plenty of gunfire during the first encounter. Those marines were gonna get killed anyways. Also The heat exchangers still got hit by gunfire. Leading to the explosion during the movies final scenes.
